Mutt-i-grees® ACTIV-ities
This exciting companion program to our Mutt-i-grees Curriculum extends the Mutt-i-grees Movement into YMCAs across the US, helping children become more physically active through animal-themed ACTIV-ities.
Mutt-i-grees ACTIV-ities will also teach children to value shelter animals and will help today's children become the next generation of adopters. Mutt-i-grees has the power to reduce the number of animals that are destroyed nationally.
8 to 10 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens enter shelters each year in the US, and tragically, an estimated 4 million of these wonderful animals are destroyed elsewhere. That's 10,950 animals destroyed daily, 450 hourly and almost 8 pets destroyed per minute at municipal shelters and other shelters that euthanize animals as a means of population control. To reduce these alarming statistics, North Shore Animal League America created the Mutt-i-grees Movement, which includes two strong youth components, the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum and Mutt-i-grees ACTIV-ities.
The Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum
This innovative curriculum helps educates the next generation of children to become compassionate and caring. The Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum is truly innovative, in that it bridges Social and Emotional Learning with Humane Education. The curriculum builds important social and emotional skills-empathy, self-esteem, team building-helping children better care for themselves, the people around them, and of course, the animals. This innovative curriculum was developed by the Animal League, in collaboration with Yale University's School of the 21st Century, to help stop animal cruelty before it starts.
