ADOPTION ALERT: September 6, 2013

Neglected No More

Sweet Shepherd Mutt-i-gree®, once left chained in a yard, is looking for his loving home

Every dog, cat, puppy and kitten deserves a safe and loving home. But not all animals are so lucky.

That was the case with Mr. Bundles, the beautiful Shepherd mix pictured here. Early in his life, Bundles did have a caring owner, but when that person was suddenly hospitalized, the family left in charge of him left the poor dog tied up outside, and gave him no veterinary care, socialization or affection.

Luckily, devoted animal lover Christine learned of the dog’s plight through a local rescue group and took it on as a personal mission to save Bundles. After contacting the dog’s caretaker, she began feeding Bundles every day, driving an hour each way from her home to tend to the dog’s physical and emotional needs.

Her desire, of course, was to find Bundles a loving home with adopters who would give him the life every animal deserves. Eventually, her dedication paid off, and the dog’s owner let Christine take Bundles for good.

Christine was unable to keep him in her home, so she turned to North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, for help. We took Bundles in immediately.

When Bundles was examined by our veterinary staff, it was clear that he had not been provided with any medical care in his previous home. Our medical team worked to cure Bundles of the illnesses he had contracted before his rescue, which included heartworm, hookworm and Lyme’s Disease.

Bundles spent nearly a month in our Medical Center, and he is now in our shelter waiting for a loving adopter to take him home and give him all the love in the world.

“He is such a sweet dog,” says Christine. “I know that whoever adopts him will fall in love with him as much as I did.”

Christine is a true hero for being so selfless in her care for Bundles. And that devotion turned out to be a life-changer for her. Christine was so moved by the care Animal League America gave to Bundles that she interviewed for a job with us, and today she is part of our Pet Behavior Team at our Port Washington, NY headquarters!

“I was so impressed by what everyone here did for Bundles that it made me want to be part of Animal League America’s life-saving mission,” she says. “This way, I can help thousands of animals just like him!”

For Christine, the experience of rescuing Bundles has led to the career of her dreams, and she credits Bundles for her good fortune. “Bundles saved me as much as I saved him,” she says, tears welling up in her eyes. “I am finally able to live my passion. I now work at the world’s largest no-kill animal shelter, and as soon as I can, I will become a certified Dog Trainer, Dog Behaviorist and Therapy Dog Trainer. So, thank you Mr. Bundles! Because of you, I will save more!”
