Hi everybody,

Ike here reportin’ from North Shore Animal League America in New York! I’m havin’ just the best time ever over here. Everyday I get to play and walk and run and eat and get special hugs and kisses.

I was a little worried when they told me I was goin’ to the big city. But I have to tell ya – everyone has just been peachy-keen. Did I mention belly rubs? I get lots of those! And I suspect I’ll be getting tons more – know why? I’VE BEEN ADOPTED.

Yep. Only a few days here and already I’m headin’ out the door. I’m gonna miss all these kind Animal League folks. They sure do care about animals. And I’m gonna miss all the animals, too. Most of these fellas have been here a lot more than just a few days. It’s a shame.

Take Nicky, for example. Ncky is just over 1 year old and he’s a real hoot! He has been here quite a while – almost six months! Maybe it’s because he’s a big ol’ boy with lots of energy – I don’t know. But I tell ya right now, he’s got a heart of gold and is a real looker, too.

Then there’s Mel and Amelia. These two senior cats have been at the Animal League for about a year now. They are really great cats – they’re only here because their owner died. Sometimes, people pass by the older animals cause pups and kitts are so cute and frisky. But older pets need love too!

Yeah, I sure am gonna miss this place. But the good news is that I’m a bonified “New Yawker” now and I could visit any time I want. Thank you, Animal League, for givin’ me a new life and for takin’ care of so many homeless fellas. And thank you to all the kind folk who support the Animal League and help them do what they do so well!

Little Ike here with another Hurricane Rescue Update.

Today they told me that we’re hittin’ the road again – but this time, we’re making our way back home! All the folks at the Nashville shelter sure were nice. We couldn’t ask for a better group of people. They helped walked me and all of my new doggie friends and gave the cats on board some room to stretch their legs and play before loading up for the ride to New York. My oh my – New York! I’m in the big time now.

Once on board the big truck, I fell fast asleep. I wanted to be bright eyed and bushy tailed for my arrival at the Animal League, cause these folks are puttin’ me up for adoption! I can’t wait, can’t wait.

So we traveled and traveled until we finally got there. They helped me off the huge moving thing and gave me hugs and kisses. I felt like a T.V. star. People already knew my name and who I am. I think I could get used to this! If this is what having a family is like, I’m all for it. Then I got a bath and a buncha people came in to say hello. If things get any better, I may have to hire someone to help me enjoy it.

So now, I’m all neutered and ready to find a home, and am fixin’ ta do just that! I’d like to say thanks to the nice folks that rescued me; they worked real hard to get me to New York so I can find a family and have a new home.

This sure was an adventure, and I know the best is yet to come. There’s lots to do, too. I’m just as busy as a moth in a mitten, so I better run now. I’ll talk to ya soon, ye hear?

Ooooh boy! What a long journey. It’s all been goin pretty good too, no hitches – except for that needle shot they gave me. I didn’t like that much at all, but they said it would keep me from gettin sick, so I guess that’s good. I got a bath, too, and that felt real nice. I was stinky!

I can’t thank the Animal League and the Humane Society SPCA of Bexar County enough for all they’ve done for me as well as all the animals that had to be evacuated to their shelter from Hurricane Ike. You know, they didn’t name me Ike because I’m bad or destructive; they did it because I am the good that came out of it. I guess they’re what you call “looking on the bright side.”

Everyone pitched in to get us animals comfortably loaded for the first leg of the journey to the half way point. We rode for a real long time, but made stops for food, stretching and walks. I got to get out and play a bit too. We were headin’ to do a layover in Nashville with their shelter partner Metro Animal Services. We arrived at 2:30 am! Those folks were also just great to us. They had people there to unload all of us off the big moving thing so we could go potty after the long haul. Then they gave us a really nice place at this shelter to get a snack and take a nap without moving. The people that rescued me said that we have to do this all over again after we rest for a few hours. I don’t like the sound of that too much, but I can’t wait to get to the Animal League in New York where I will find a new family. That makes me happier than a clam at high tide!

Well I’m gonna try and get some shut-eye. We’re all pooped over here. I’ll let you in on the final update after we all arrive safe and sound to our final destination, North Shore Animal League America! I am so happy, my tail just keeps going. Hope I can sleep.

Hi it’s me, Little Ike, if you haven’t met me yet, see my September 9th blog! So here is an update from me…

Tuesday was a bunch of planning and paperwork. Diane, Mike and Claire were buzzin around like honeybees making sure to get as many animals onto the big rig as possible. It was a happy day, too, because before we even hit the road, some of the animals got adopted, and we were able to fill those spots with other fellas who needed homes too. So on board we have 29 dogs, seven cats and seven kittens - makin’ a total of 43 animals that were saved from hurricane-evacuated shelters and the shelter in San Antonio. These Animal League people are on homeless animals like a duck on a June bug!

Well, that’s all for now… I’ll be talkin’ to ya with another Hurricane Rescue Mission update real soon.

Hi y’all. My name is Little Ike. I’m a puppy. I reckon I’m only about 10 weeks old, but I’ve already had more excitement than you could imagine.

You see, I got caught up in a big storm! Dust and branches were flyin’ everywhere and the roads looked more like the Rio Grande. I was wanderin’ the flooded streets when a nice little lady came by and gave me a ride. She told me not to worry – that she’d make sure I’d get to safety right quick.

We came across a huge camper truck that had cats and doggies painted all over it. It had “North Shore Animal League America” written across the side. Well, if you’re thinking that I stumbled upon some mighty good luck, you wouldn’t be mistaken.

The Animal League said I could hitch a ride with them until they found me a real home. So to earn my feed, I’m writing this here blog to give Diane, Claire and Mike a break. They sure are good people.
