Sir Kobe

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Sir Kobe is spending a lot of time in the cat house lately!  He’s been a very bad boy.  He bit one of the other female cats in his household.  His foster mother is not sure what brought on this on, but in an effort to separate them, Sir Kobe is being kept in his own room most of the day.  While in his room, he does enjoy visits for playing, petting and relaxing.  We look forward to a very happy and healthy New Year for Sir Kobe and all of our beloved special-needs sponsor program pets!

Penny

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Unfortunately, Penny’s daily care has been increasingly more difficult to maintain for her adoptive parent. While Penny doesn’t mind receiving her daily fluids, it is time consuming and taxing to administer these fluids on an ongoing basis. Although her adoptive parent loves Penny dearly he does want to make sure that Penny gets the best care possible. Because Penny will always have a place to call home at the Animal League, she has come back to stay with us while we all work hard to find her a great, loving home; hopefully in time for the New Year. In the meantime the staff at the Animal League will be sure to shower Penny will love and attention as always.

Penny

Penny’s adoptive parents advised that she has been feeling well and has not had any health concerns this past month. She takes her medication without any fuss and doesn’t seem to mind that her adoptive sibling Zippy doesn’t have daily medication just like her! Penny’s family has noticed that she likes to spend her time lounging under the dresser and also laying across the window sill where she watches the birds. When she gets a little rambunctious you can find her and Zippy swatting at each other playfully. Her adoptive parents said that Zippy and Penny love to play together – including hiding from each other, jumping, chasing and batting one another’s tails.

Napoleon

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Napoleon had surgery on both ears.  Since both ear canals have been completely removed he is now completely deaf. That said, he is now much more comfortable without the masses (that were causing him some pain) and without the infection.  The biopsies of both ear canals did unfortunately come back as a type of cancer called ceruminous gland adenocarcinomas, but not entirely unexpected in light of the chronic history of ear disease prior to his arrival.  The surgical excision on both ears was complete with clean surgical margins (no tumor cells left behind), but due to the malignant nature of this disease his prognosis is still guarded.  He will have close monitoring in the future with chest x-rays and exams to ensure there are no new growths in the region of his ear canals.  He is on antibiotics, pain medication and eye lubrication to keep his tear production normal as he heals from the surgery.

Bonnie

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Our precious Bonnie has been enjoying her home despite having a few other felines around that she doesn’t necessarily get along with. Even when Bonnie was at the Animal League she sometimes had a fickle attitude and would enjoy her alone time in her cage while the other cats scampered around. In her home Bonnie typically spends her time away from the other 4 cats and retreats to her own room to relax. Of course Bonnie makes her way out to enjoy dinner time. Her family says that Bonnie gobbles up her wet and dry food quickly and this seems to be her favorite time of the day!

Buttermilk

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Buttermilk’s family is happy to report that he’s doing great! His medication, coupled with the great care he receives from his owners, has helped Buttermilk heal tremendously. However, just when his allergic irritation was almost completely resolved, Buttermilk accidentally scratched his eye. But he has since been recovering nicely. His family was extremely pleased to see that his character has not been affected at all. He is still as sweet and loveable as can be! Buttermilk’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of his sponsors. Without all of your help his amazing progress would not be possible.

Penny

Penny continues to be an extremely playful and bouncy little kitty. She absolutely loves to spend her days playing with her feline companion Zippy and her medical condition never seems to have any effect on her attitude at all. She frolics around the condo chasing him around and loves to jump out and pounce for some good-natured wrestling. Penny’s owner also loves how much time she spends playing with him. She’s simply an absolute delight to have around.

Jules

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Lately, Jules has been showing signs that he is not interested in grooming himself.  He has been looking bedraggled and getting some matted hair patches in his long coat.  That means his foster family has to take care of the grooming.  They are back to brushing him a few times each week and seeking him out from under the bed for his nightly “rubdowns.”  Jules, of course, protests and tries to dig his claws into the carpet.  When it’s over, Jules continues to complain about it using a peculiar high pitched chirp or kitty “bark” that he emits wandering around the apartment while they sleep.

Cleo

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Cleo is usually exceptionally good about not jumping up on the dining room table, but for some reason she kept hopping up during a dinner visit with some company.  After several frustrating minutes of jumping up and shooing her away, it dawned on her family that as the Lady of the House, Cleo might just want to join them as they ate with their company.  With that in mind, they gathered up several pillows and piled them high enough on a chair so that she could see the table.  Sure enough, she hopped right up on them and did lie down while watching them quite contently.  What a hostess!

Penny

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Penny continues to be a good sport with taking her daily fluids and rarely puts up a fight. She also continues to be rambunctious and playful. Her foster parent has made sure to provide Penny, and her friend Zippy, with additional toys and scratching posts. He is hoping that this will help ensure that both Penny and Zippy keep their paws off of the furniture. This plan seems to be working and the toys with cat nip seem to be keeping Penny pretty busy. She usually tires herself out with all her rigorous play and instead of scratching the couch; she jumps up on it to take a nap.
