Sasha

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Sasha is doing great. She loves her yard – she has a lot of room to run and play! We have been bringing her in on cold nights and she crate-trained in a snap! She loves all the walks and we’ve increased her playtime mates from one dog up to two at a time. She has found the joys of tug-of-war with her new canine pals!

We also believe her incontinence has improved significantly since coming to St. Francis Animal Sanctuary – no accidents in her crate at night! But she will be seeing a specialist to see if there’s anything else that can be done to help her.

Charley

Charley’s adopted mother is happy to report his last visit to the veterinarian went very well and there’s nothing new to report medically. However, at home, Charley has become more demanding – he’s barking when he wants goodies. He and the other dogs in the house love taking turns steeling the toys from each other and running all around. We are so glad Charley is living in a happy home. He is doing as well as can be expected considering the trouble he has walking and although it is difficult for Charley to get around, he is always in good spirits. He wags his tail when he receives attention and pretty much gets anything he wants when he flashes his puppy dog eyes – he’s irresistible!

We are happy to report that Ellie is doing well. She still has the energy of a puppy and gets very excited when she knows she is going out for a walk. However, her foster mom recently had a surgical procedure and wasn’t feeling too well and Ellie nuzzled up with her for a little rest and relaxation to make her feel better. But, Ellie loves her time out in the yard and needed to sneak away for some lounging on her dog bed while the weather still permitted. Soon the snow will be falling and little Ellie will be stuck inside gazing out through the window.

Marty

Monday, December 28th, 2009

This beautiful Golden Retriever is Marty. Marty was rescued from a backyard breeding operation when he was only two months old. Often, as in Marty’s case, the breeding parents are inbred, over-bred, not given proper medical attention and on insufficient diets, commonly resulting in sickly and even deformed offspring.

As a puppy, Marty started exhibiting questionable behaviors such as walking in circles, stumbling and even bumping into walls. Marty has a mild neurological disorder (disease of the nervous system) and his symptoms include: lack of balance, staring aimlessly, circling, walking into objects and occasional unresponsiveness. Because of this, he needs a close eye on him and to be kept safe from general household hazards such as stairs and sharp objects like table corners. Had Marty’s parents been properly bred and cared for, he most likely would not have this unfortunate condition.

Marty is an incredibly affectionate and darling dog. His gentle nature and sweet face make him quite hard to resist. Funny and adorable, Marty is a great dog, and the Animal League is happy to be able to care for him in our Sponsor Program for the rest of his life.

Sasha

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

We are happy to report that Sasha made the transition to her new home at the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary without any problems. She settled in well and has adjusted to the routine at the sanctuary very quickly. Each day Sasha is taken out for playtime and walks and has been introduced to other dogs at the sanctuary under supervision. While Sasha is not yet 100% comfortable with male staff members, she is gaining trust and confidence each day. In addition, Sasha will soon be evaluated by a referred veterinary clinic to determine if her urinary issues can be resolved.

Sasha

We have some wonderful news to share about Sasha. She was recently transferred to St. Francis Animal Sanctuary in Mississippi where she will be cared for and loved for the rest of her life. As a long-term resident of the Animal League Sasha received plenty of love and attention from the staff, but she did experience some stress as a result of being in a shelter environment. Fortunately, friends at the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary were able to bring Sasha to their facility. With a dog barn and acres upon acres of outdoor dog runs to enjoy, Sasha will have a wonderful, fulfilling life where she can receive care for her medical conditions and enjoy the great outdoors.
