Giving ThanksPosted by on November 13, 2013
With the gorgeous autumn leaves bidding us a colorful farewell, I’m getting into winter mode, pulling out my cold-weather apparel, starting my gift list, and thinking about the many blessings in my life as we head into the holiday season.
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I’m reminded more than ever of all I have to be grateful for. First, I am blessed to have a wonderful husband who shares my devotion to helping animals in need. This year, Howard has given so much time and energy to supporting Animal League America, an organization for which I am so proud to serve as spokesperson, volunteer and, starting this year, foster parent! Howard has been an incredible foster dad to the many dozens of kittens and cats we cared for this year, giving them tons of love—and helping me through my tears when we bid them farewell.
He’s also been a huge support in helping Animal League America launch the campaign to raise funds for Bianca’s Furry Friends, the proposed Feline Adoption & Wellness Center named in honor of our beloved girl. The photographs he took of me with some of the gorgeous Animal League America Mutt-i-grees® for our 2014 calendar were some of his best photographs to date! (Please order your copy today—all proceeds will go to support Bianca’s Furry Friends!)
I’m so thankful to the animal lovers, friends and performers who will be joining me and Howard on Friday, November 22nd, as we officially launch the campaign for Bianca’s Furry Friends at the Animal League America Celebrity Gala in New York City. It’s not too late to order your tickets! And I’m equally thankful to all of you who donated toward Bianca’s Furry Friends and all Animal League America life-saving initiatives, whether you gave $5 or $5,000. Every contribution matters, because it comes from your heart.
To all of you who have chosen to adopt an animal and save a life rather than shop at a pet store, I give you my thanks—but more importantly, know that your furry family member is thankful to you every day of the year. Please keep spreading the word so we can make our goal of a no-kill nation a reality!
Finally, I’m eternally grateful to Animal League America for bringing happiness into my life in the form of five fantastic felines: Walter, Apple, Leon Bear, Charlie Boy and Bella. I’m sure that all of you reading this know exactly what I mean when I say that there is nothing in the world more joyous than the bond we share with our pets.
Please accept my warmest wishes for a Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter and family—human, canine and feline!
