The Gifts that Keep on Giving

Posted by on December 11, 2013

Don’t you just love this time of year? I’m a real mush when it comes to the holiday season. I can’t wait to turn on the TV, cuddle up with my five cats and foster kittens, and spend evenings watching Rudolf, Charlie Brown and one of my very favorites, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

I’m sure you remember the Dr. Seuss classic. The moment toward the end when the Grinch’s heart grows three sizes—well, it gets me every time! The mean, green villain learns the real meaning of giving as he gazes upon the residents of Who-ville, still joyful despite the theft of their gifts. "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

I know the perfect way for you to add meaning to your holiday this year. Give a gift of sponsorship to North Shore Animal League America and help us fulfill our mission to rescue, nurture and adopt homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens—nearly 20,000 each year!

When you give a Gift Sponsorship, it enables us to provide the necessary medical care for all our special-needs pets for their entire lives. I bet you’ll feel your heart grow, too, when you sponsor pets like Xena, an adorable hound mix who had a life-threatening condition called liver shunt. We gave Xena the surgery that saved her life, and then found her adopters who adore her.

Xena’s story so touched the heart of a very special 13-year-old named Emily that she used her allowance to sponsor the sweet dog, who needs daily medication. Emily even met Xena and her adopters in person! Read about it here.

There are dozens of wonderful dogs and cats who need your support so they can continue to live long, happy and healthy lives. Can you think of a present that would be more special to all the animal people on your list? It’s truly a gift that keeps on giving, and I’m sure you and your loved ones will never forget it.

Happy Holidays to all!

P.S. There are many other ways to support North Shore Animal League America’s mission, including purchasing the 2014 Calendar featuring photographs taken by my secret Santa, Howard Stern. All proceeds from the calendar go to support Bianca’s Furry Friends, the largest expansion plan in our history! You can also contribute to our mission by buying your friends some of North Shore Animal League’s specially branded items, such as warm and fuzzy sweatshirts for both you and your best furry pal. Shop our online store for more ideas!
