New Orleans, LA at the Southern Animal FoundationPosted by on February 22, 2010
Well, we’ve arrived at our 10th stop on the Purina ONE Tour For Heroes here in historic New Orleans, Louisiana. The Southern Animal Foundation rolled out the red carpet for us and we had a great event right on the sidewalk. Classic New Orleans with wrought iron balconies, friendly faces and wagging tails everywhere.
From store merchants to the pet parents in this great city, everyone was so grateful for all the Purina ONE giveaways as well as the dog and cat food. There were some great dogs on the Mobile Unit who found their loving homes. Inside the shelter, there was a beautiful little 5-year-old Bichon/Poodle Mutt-i-Gree looking for a home and a family to call her own. Halfway through the event, I noticed a wonderful woman walking this dog. The woman was kind and she talked with me for a moment. She explained how she lived alone and wasn’t looking for an animal companion, but as soon as she saw her, it was instant love. She named her Sugar, and as they were walking away, you could see Sugars’ tail wagging as the perfect match had been made.
As we approach our final destination, I am eager to continue helping. Talking to families, seeing the wagging tails at each Tour stop and helping people and pets in need at a time when things are tight makes me proud to be a part of something so meaningful.
Our next and last stop is North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, New York, and I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I really hope to see you there.
