July 4, 2012, Colorado Springs, CO – In support of the relief efforts offered by NSALA and NMDR, beginning (TODAY) Wednesday, July 4th, 1000 KONG Toys and Treats donated by Purina ONE and KONG Company will be distributed at the El Paso County Disaster Recovery Center to pet owners affected by the Waldo Canyon fire. Animals need support too, and whether it is used to play or stuffed with treats, KONG is the perfect toy that will keep pets busy and less stressed during this time of duress.

The Cesar Millan Foundation has also contributed to the emergency relief efforts with a generous donation from its Daddy's Emergency Animal Rescue Fund (DEAR). The DEAR Fund provides assistance for dogs who are victims of emergency circumstances, including natural disasters.

These contributions are essential to the no-kill, non profit animal rescue groups' efforts, allowing NSALA and NMDR to continue to provide services to the thousands of residents with pets who have been affected by this tragedy.

The self-contained Mobile Rescue Unit will continue to be stationed at the El Paso County Disaster Recovery Center at 105 North Spruce St, Colorado Springs.

AVAILABLE SERVICES FOR WEDNESDAY, JULY 4:

  • The Mobile Rescue Unit will be available for:
    • Pet Daycare from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily
    • Overnight pet services
    • Pet-Sitting while fire evacuees are meeting with representatives in the El Paso Disaster Recover Center
  • KONG Toys and Treats to be distributed
  • Supplies are also being distributed, including cat and dog food, cat litter and other pet supplies.
  • NSALA and NMDR Rescue Experts will provide Pet Safety Tips as evacuees return to their homes to ensure the safety of their pets.
