Mýa to Make Special Announcement Showing her Support for the Animal League

Grammy Award-Winning singer-songwriter and actress Mýa, North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization and FIDO Friendly Magazine, the travel and lifestyle publication for dog owners, will kick-off the third annual “Get Your Licks on Route 66 Tour” – a national pet adoption tour that will travel the entire length of Route 66, from Illinois to California - on August 31, 2011.  The tour will raise awareness of the plight of homeless pets and vital services that participating animal shelter and rescue partners provide to their communities, and engage pet lovers through special events.

Mýa, who has five pets including a sweet cat named Mellow who she adopted from the Animal League, is planning to make a special announcement showing her love and commitment to saving animals’ lives.

The Animal League Mobile Rescue and Adoption Unit will begin its voyage in Port Washington, NY on Wednesday, August 31 and arrive at the first pet adoption event in Flagstaff, AZ on Wednesday, September 7.  It will then continue on Route 66 for nearly a month, traveling through 12 cities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, and Illinois, and partner with local shelters and rescue groups across the nation.  This year, the Route 66 Tour will utilize a second Mobile Unit, stationed with Animal League partner National Mill Dog Rescue in Colorado Springs, CO, which will travel through 5 additional cities along Route 66.

The tour will culminate with Mutt-i-grees® Mania, a special Grand Finale adoption event in New York City on Sunday, September 25 at Hudson River Park, Pier 40.
