36 Hour Weekend Event set for
April 30th and May 1st

April 13, 2011 (Port Washington, NY) – Beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, April 30th, North Shore Animal League America will open its doors at 25 Davis Avenue in Port Washington, for its 17th Annual, 36-hour adoption event; Pet Adoptathon 2011. More than 2,000 animal shelters and rescue groups around the world will join the Animal League for this premiere global pet adoption event, sponsored by Purina ONE® and Purina One beyOnd, to help save the lives of homeless pets.

Animal League adopters will have over 700 puppies, kittens, dogs and cats to choose from at its Port Washington adoption headquarters. Joining the opening ceremony celebration will be actress and soap opera star Carolyn Hennesy, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano with a Proclamation and animal advocate Nassau County District Attorney, Kathleen Rice.

The 36-hour marathon event will feature fun for the entire family under the big tent, including performances on both April 30th and May 1st by the Purina Incredible Dog Team. Other activities include video games, photo booth, kid’s corner, Mutt-i-grees Marketplace, arts and crafts, balloon sculptures, plants for sale and so much more! Relax in the Kitty Cat Café, while enjoying food and beverages, cotton candy and smoothies. Experts in training, veterinary care and grooming will be available both days to offer tips and advice. Tent hours are 9am-5pm.

On Sunday, May 1st at 12:00 noon meet two-time Super Bowl champion Jarvis Green for fitness fun for kids of all ages. Bring your sneakers for Melody Hound’s Mutt-i-grees activities. These engaging activities will help your children bond and understand your newly adopted pet even more!
