Saving the lives of innocent animals…that is the cornerstone of North Shore Animal League America's mission. We save one life every 27 MINUTES. That means that every 27 minutes, an animal in our care finds a new, loving home. It means that every 27 minutes, an unwanted or abandoned dog, cat, puppy or kitten is rescued. And each life saved has a story.

Here at the League, we know that for each previously owned pet that comes into our care, there are many more that have never known the love of a family. In just one day, a mere 24 HOURS, the League will help approximately 58 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens become members of a new family. For many of these pets, it will be the first time they have ever had a permanent home and the love they deserve.

In just ONE WEEK, the League will rescue more than 400 animals and provide them with the very best care. Many will require some type of additional medical care. There will be vaccinations for illness prevention, medicines for the cure of upper respiratory infections, x-rays to check undiagnosed growths and spay/neuter procedures to promote health and prevent overpopulation. Some of our new friends will arrive pregnant. Many of the mothers will be able to care for their newborns but, unfortunately, some will not.

In ONE MONTH, the League saves approximately 1,700 animals. That means 1,700 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are being adopted into new homes and making room for 1,700 new rescues. But what happened to those animals not rescued by North Shore Animal League America? Some will be saved and adopted into new homes. But the sad fact is that over 55% of these animals will be euthanized due to a lack of space and the overpopulation that shelters simply can't keep up with. These pets will never wake up. They will never know the joy of a family.

In the short span of just ONE YEAR, North Shore Animal League America rescues and adopts close to 21,000 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. But we must do more; and with your continued help, we can. Since our founding in 1944, we have saved the lives of close to 1,000,000 abandoned, unwanted and neglected pets. As the world's largest no-kill rescue and adoption agency, our goal is to save as many lives as possible. One life saved every 27 minutes is impressive, but imagine if we could improve that number to one life every 20 minutes, or even one life every 10 minutes..
