In 2004, a beautiful Domestic Short Hair cat named Candy was abandoned here at the League. We immediately took her into our care and started evaluating her mental and physical health to prepare her for adoption. Candy was what some here have described as “an independent cat.” She was moody and often aggressive towards people and other cats. Candy also had a sweet and loving side, however. When she wanted affection, she certainly would let someone know by meowing loudly and rubbing up against them.

Candy was put in training to help her with some of her behavioral problems. Because she didn’t get along with other cats, she wound up having her very own room for a while at the Cat Habitat here at the League. Candy was unpredictable and her mood could turn on a dime as she would sometimes bite or scratch.

With a little extra effort, time, love and attention, Candy was eventually ready to be socialized in with the other cats, and though she was still her dominant self, time seemed to ease her demands. Candy was here with us for two years, and though she still had her moods, she was really a warm and loving cat. We could tell that she had so much love to give, and when the right person came along, she would be an amazing companion.

In September 2006, Candy was finally adopted by a loving couple. Whether it was her luxurious prismatic coat, her hypnotically verdant gaze, or perhaps the subtle traces of longing in her purr, it was apparent to Erin and Chris that this was the cat for them.

Erin has excitedly expressed to us that Candy was exactly the cat she had been searching for. Initially, she and Chris had their doubts about Candy, but were pleasantly surprised at how quickly Candy had adjusted to her new home and her new life. She was no longer running away from people as they entered the house and she was exploring every inch of her new home. It was only a few weeks before she was cuddling up to Chris and pushing her way under his arm to nap with him on the couch.

This once moody feline was all of a sudden a consistently happy, extremely affectionate cat who loved attention. Playful and curious, affectionate and often silly, Candy became the perfect housecat and a warm, gentle and loving companion. Erin’s arms have become a safe haven for Candy and the master bed now sleeps three. Candy has turned into such an amorous cat that one night, she went up to Chris in bed and rubbed her nose against his and then ever so gently, gave a little nibble and pull on his lower lip followed by an innocent “meow.” Chris and Erin could barely believe it. She is literally as sweet as candy; and they genuinely feel that this meeting was meant to be.
