Rescue Alert:
Small breed dogs arrive safely in New York
as part of a bi-coastal rescue effort
The Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation, the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, Last Chance for Animals, Animal Advocates Alliance, and North Shore Animal League America rescued 47 small breed dogs from overcrowded shelters in Southern California where euthanasia was imminent.
The small breed dogs were transported by Cloud Nine Rescue from California to New York, where they were greeted by North Shore Animal League America’s mobile adoption unit, and transported to their campus in Port Washington, NY.
The dogs are being medically and behaviorally evaluated and treated, spayed or neutered and placed for adoption each day as they are ready.
There are a variety of dogs including Chihuahuas, mixed-breed Dachshunds, and mixed-breed Schnauzers available. These adult dogs are one year and older and most of them are housebroken and will walk on a leash.
With an excess of small breed dogs on the West Coast, many of the canines end up in high-kill shelters where euthanasia is used as a means of population control. This rescue will benefit these animals as they face little chance of adoption in their current location, but are highly desirable in the Northeast.
Here is just a sampling of the wonderful dogs that are currently available for adoption at the Animal League’s shelter in Port Washington, NY.
