Animal League Seeks Veterinary Volunteers for Upcoming Puppy Mill Rescue

Shelter to Receive Approximately 200 Dogs on November 18

November 6, 2009 (Port Washington) – North Shore Animal League America is seeking the volunteer help of New York State licensed veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians to assist with the processing and examination of dogs from a puppy mill rescue. Veterinarians experienced in high-volume spay/neuter are particularly needed. The Animal League anticipates the arrival of approximately 200 small to medium sized dogs on Wednesday, November 18 from a mid-west puppy mill.

The Animal League will also require the help of experienced groomers. Puppy mill dogs, who have lived their lives in commercial breeding facilities devoid of human interaction and proper care and nutrition, require the love and handling of people who are kind, patient and understanding of their specific needs. It is expected that the process will cover up to a three-day period.

To help defray costs of the rescue the Animal League is asking for donations. To make an online donation, visit www.AnimalLeague.org or mail your donation to North Shore Animal League America, 750 Port Washington Blvd., Port Washington, NY 11050. In addition, donations of toys and clean towels and blankets for these animals will be appreciated and can be brought to the shelter at 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY.

To volunteer your services to help these animals, please contact Lauraine Merlini, 516-883-7900 ext. 258.
