Headquarters: Hello Everybody

Posted by on August 30, 2008

This has been a very active time here at North Shore Animal League America. We just completed the rescue of over 120 dogs from a puppy mill in West Virginia. Now, we are preparing to embark on another mission of mercy. My name is Joanne Yohannan and I am the senior Vice President of Operations for the League. I have personally seen my share of large scale emergencies that have triggered our rescue efforts, but nothing compares to the devastation and level of rescue support that we implemented in connection with hurricane Katrina in 2005. Over 1600 animals were rescued within the first few weeks, and over the past three years that number of lives saved has grown to nearly 2400. Many of our supporters have generously opened their hearts and homes to these exceptional animals.

Now, on the eve of Hurricane Gustav, we are ready to assist in the hurricane zones to save even more animals lives. Please join me in wishing our rescue teams a safe journey.

Our rescue teams will keep you updated as will I as our rescue efforts continue.

I’ll be back in touch with you again soon,

Joanne

Are you the ones who helped to evacuate the pets from New Orleans for Gustav? If so, is there an address you guys can get up on CNN for folks to donate pet food, and what kinds of petfoods are needed? Thank you.

I hope along with the smaller pets like cats and dogs, people remember to make arrangements for their larger companion animals such as horses, donkeys and such. I worry about the carriage horses and hope they are being cared for.

God Bless every person that cares for the innocents among us - people and animals alike - Thank you seems a small tribute but without people such as yourselves -how could any justice/help come about for the animals? Thank you from Cindy, Damon and Kallie (our 17 1/2 year old tortie cat)

Please let me know if we can do or send anything your way. Just be careful and don’t let the rescuers become in need of rescuing.

Please be safe and thank you so much for all the work you do. NSAL is truly an amazing place, as I currently have 2 adopted dogs from there, but have had 3 all together. Your tireless efforts are appreciated by the very animals you rescue.
