Each month we'll bring you the latest stories from the foster care unit at the Animal League where Help for Every Little Pet (HELP) is hard at work. You'll find updates on litters of kittens and puppies that have a chance at life - thanks to dedicated supporters of HELP and the associates and volunteers at the Animal League.

Sweet Sophie was in danger of being euthanized.
How precious is this momma with her babes? Sophie is a gorgeous Corgi/Dachshund Mutt-i-gree™ that North Shore Animal League America rescued from a small, municipal shelter. Because of pet overpopulation and space restrictions, sick animals, animals with litters or pregnant animals like Sophie, often face tragic fates.

One of the ways the Animal League helps is by going to these overcrowded shelters and rescuing pets that may not have otherwise had a chance. Sophie was one of them. With six unborn babies in her belly and seven spay/neuters in their futures, Sophie would have likely been put down.

Your donations to the Animal League's HELP Program saved Sophie and her unborn babies.
The Animal League's Help Every Little Pet (HELP) Program changed all that for sweet Sophie. She was placed in the Animal League's Foster Care unit where she could have her litter, any medical attention she might need, and a safe, warm place to recover and care for her babies.

On December 19th, beautiful Sophie was given a holiday gift of six healthy puppies - in a variety of colors. Her three boys and three girls are all healthy, nursing very well and are as adorable as can be as they snooze the days away. Sophie is a very loving momma. She puts her babies first and can be seen nursing her little ones with a full plate of food in her area. She makes sure all her babies are fed and groomed and only then takes care of herself.

Sophie is also very protective of her pups. As you can imagine, a new momma wants to make sure no harm comes to her babies and is weary of visitors she doesn't recognize. But as much as Sophie may worry when strangers approach, she can not conceal her affectionate nature as her happily wagging tail reveals. It only takes a short while to become Sophie's best friend. She loves to be held and will gaze lovingly into your eyes. When you scoop her up in your arms, she melts right into you. This sweet mommy loves to be cradled like she's the baby.

Your support of the Animal League's HELP Program will save countless lives.
Sophie is between 1 and 2 years old, and her puppies, which are growing every minute, are just a few weeks old. Your support of the Animal League's life-saving HELP Program saved Sophie and her six precious pups and gave them the chance they most likely would not have had. Without your love and dedication, they may not have been here today.

Sophie was saved, but so many more families also need your HELP. Please continue to give families like Sophie's the support they need to have a chance at life, health and happiness.
