My Name is Pounce...
Hi. My name is Pounce. I am the newest (and littlest) member of the Animal League’s life-saving Help Me Heal Program!
As you may have noticed, I am having some trouble with my left eye. Even though I’m only 8 weeks old, and weigh only one and a half pounds, I’m going to need a lot of help. Thank goodness the Animal League rescued me. I shiver to think what may have become of me if I wound up somewhere else.
Before coming to the Animal League, I suffered from a very bad respiratory infection. The trauma from the infection was so severe that it ruptured the globes in my left eye and caused deep corneal scarring. Ruptured globes are really painful. They bleed internally and put a lot of pressure on the eyes.
My eye is so bad that I can’t see from it anymore. I’ve gone completely blind in my left eye. For now, my right eye seems o.k., but it needs to be monitored to make sure that it stays that way. I also have a mild heart murmur that needs to be kept in check.
I’m going to need some surgery. I need to have my infected eye removed. When you get your eye removed, it’s called an enucleation.
Because I’m still so tiny, I have to wait before I can have surgery. I have to be at least two pounds. So the Animal League is going to keep me safe and happy until I gain some weight. Then, I’ll have my special operation.
As you can imagine, enucleation is a delicate surgery – especially on a little kitten. But the good news is that I am in really good hands here. The doctors said they expect me to have a full recovery and an excellent quality of life. When I’m all healed, the Animal League is going to neuter me and then find me a home.
Even though my eye can't see, it still tears up when I think about
how much love everyone is giving me.
People are constantly touching me, examining me; cuddling me…I hear sweet words and rest my head against calming heartbeats. There is a lot of love here, and there is a lot of love out there.
Thank you for caring about a tiny kitten who is lost and helpless in this big world. Without your love and compassion, I probably would have no future and no chance at happiness.Read More Stories »
