Smores's Story
When North Shore Animal League America rescued the 10-week old Malti-poo, it was clear that the tiny puppy was suffering from serious medical issues.
Smores was diagnosed with a disorder of her liver called a Portosystemic Shunt (PSS), which is caused by abnormal blood flow through the liver. The abnormality causes toxin to build up in his tiny body, posing serious risks, including seizures. Due to the liver disorder, he suffers from ataxia, fatigue and hearing problems.
A combination of surgery, medication and diet are needed to ensure that Smores has a full and happy life.
North Shore Animal League America never abandons the ailing animals in our care. We’re dedicated to providing them with the treatment they need to get well. But we need your help.
Your support of the Help Me Heal Program helps animals like Smores get the care they desperately need. Please donate today.
