Sponsorship Dogs: Darby
Darby, a Pekingese-mix Mutt-i-gree® (any rescued or shelter pet), existed only to breed for the first five years of her life. Confined to a cramped, filthy cage in a Mid-western puppy mill, she never experienced a gentle touch, soothing words or compassion of any kind. That is, until she was released into the welcoming arms of North Shore Animal League America. Our veterinarians diagnosed Darby with severe dental disease, infections in both eyes, a heart murmur, extreme hip disease and critical elbow deformities. Darby underwent an operation to remove the ball part of the hip joint’s ball-and-socket to stop her hip from constantly dislocating and end her pain. Now, Darby is healing nicely and beginning to walk more normally. Soon she’ll be ready to be matched with the responsible, loving adopter able to care for this special gal. Until then, we’ll shower her with everything she needs for the best life possible. Darby’s sweet nature and strong spirit enables her to live life to the fullest despite her lifelong health challenges. She is in good company among her sponsor pet brothers and sisters who also face chronic medical conditions. And, we are happy to provide each and every sponsor pet with all the medical care necessary for the rest of their lives. Please join us in welcoming Darby to this lifesaving program. Thank you for making a real difference by sponsoring Darby. The difference between life and death.
