Sponsor Animal Update: Rex
2nd Quarter 2012
ADOPTION ALERT! So much has happened when we last told you about young Rex and how he came to the Animal League. Rex was fitted with his own mobility cart and took to his new wheels like a champion! We are happy to announce a very special woman adopted Rex. For many months, as sweet a dog as Rex is, none of the adopters who came through our doors here at the Animal League chose him to be their new family member. That all changed in early April, when a kind woman named Jean arrived at the Animal League. Jean knew she had to share her love with a special dog. She specifically wanted to adopt a dog with special needs—in part because she’s a retired nurse, and also because she wears a brace on her lower leg. As she puts it, “I like to take care of others, and I know myself what it’s like to have a disability and need help from time to time.” Jean met with the adoption counselor Laura, and through the tears she shared her story of her recent loss of her dog, Petey. She said she would never be able to replace Petey, and hoped to adopt a dog that no one else wanted; Laura immediately brought her to meet Rex. “Jean fell in love with Rex instantly,” says Laura. “They spent an hour on the floor hugging. It was awesome!” “I knew it was meant to be,” Jean says. She filled out the adoption application for Rex on the spot. When she was leaving to take him home, staff and volunteers lined up to say a tearful goodbye. A happy ending for a very special dog. We could not be happier for Rex and his new adopted mom Jean!
