Sponsor Animal Update: Sandy
Update: Sandy is Feeling Great—and Has a New Home!
Thanks to all of our sponsors, Sandy came through the first phase of her treatment with flying colors! She underwent a process called diuresis, in which large volumes of intravenous fluids are administered to flush toxins from her body and add important nutrients, and she responded beautifully.
Because of the generosity of those who contribute to our Sponsor Program, we will be able to provide Sandy with the medication and special diet she will require throughout her life. Her treatment regimen also includes weekly subcutaneous therapy, which involves injections under the skin that replace electrolytes and other essential nutrients. This process will not only help extend Sandy’s life, it also makes her feel much better.
And here’s more good news! Sandy was adopted in December 2012 by animal lovers Seamus and Salena, who report that the pup is thoroughly enjoying her life in New York City. She’s especially fond of her “active membership” in her local dog park group, where she’s part of what Seamus calls “an off-leash dog meeting” every morning at 7 a.m. and every evening at 7 p.m.
“Sandy loves running around and playing tug of war with other dogs,” says Seamus. “She is a sweet, friendly, affectionate girl who joins our family wherever we go. Sandy could not be happier, and she has reciprocated all of the love we give her and more!”
The family celebrated Sandy’s birthday in April with a party, and they say they are looking forward to many more birthdays with their new family member. “We cannot express our gratitude enough for North Shore Animal League America and all of you who donate to the Sponsor Program,” says Seamus. “Knowing there are people out there who care for Sandy without having ever met her is a beautiful support system.”
If you’re not yet part of our Sponsor Program, please join with other animal lovers today and sign up to save animals’ lives. Sandy—and all the animals in need—will be forever grateful!
