Thousands of Snowy Miles Lead to
Second Chances
In the early morning hours of a bitterly cold February morning, North Shore Animal League America’s Mobile Rescue Unit pulled into our Port Washington campus carrying precious cargo — 48 dogs rescued from commercial breeding operations across the Midwest. Nestled in the arms of our volunteers and gently carried into warmth and safety, the dogs arrived exhausted and unsure. For many, it was the first time they had experienced gentle hands and the promise of a new beginning.

Did you know that a cat’s heart is about the size of a small apricot and, depending on the individual cat, weighs no more than 20 grams? That’s less than a double AA battery! For my Florida foster, Cora Valentine, it’s even lighter because Cora was born with a hole in her heart… a minuscule imperfection that threatens her life, and all I want to do is fill that hole with love.

Every day, animals in need find hope because someone chooses to be a champion for love. Your compassion fuels our mission—giving homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens the safety, medical care, and second chances they deserve. When you open your heart, you help transform fear into comfort, uncertainty into belonging, and longing into love. Will you be a champion for love today and help us save even more lives tomorrow?
