Originally created to bring awareness to the rise in diabetes among humans, American Diabetes Month also shines a light on the fact that pets can develop diabetes at any point in their lives. Many pet parents don’t realize diabetes can affect their dog or cat, and often learn too late when they are diagnosed.
It’s important to keep an eye out for certain symptoms. Knowing what to look for is the best way to protect your pet.
- Increased drinking
- Excessive urination
- Weakness, lethargy
- Poor skin condition, such as excessive dandruff or oily coat
- Cataracts, blindness
