Meet Deuce

Meet Deuce 2018-03-16T10:23:33+00:00

Deuce is an adorable, mixed-breed dog who was part of an Animal League International Rescue Mission in 2007. At first glance, it was obvious that there was a problem with Deuce’s leg.

Deuce has angular limb deformity of his left front leg, which gives the appearance that his leg is turned out. Because of this condition, Deuce will need a series of surgeries during his lifetime to correct these defects and allow him to have a good quality of life. An existing scar on his leg and some missing bone indicates that there was either possible trauma or possibly a previous surgery done to his leg prior to his arrival at the Animal League. Deuce takes Cosequin, a nutritional supplement to help maintain optimal joint function and needs to keep his weight down so as not to stress his limbs.

Deuce’s injury will not affect his life span and certainly has not affected his wonderful temperament. He is a great dog with tons of personality, and we are happy to give him the love and care he needs for as long as he needs it. Deuce’s condition will be life-long. However, through the Animal League’s Sponsor Program, Deuce is now in a loving home with a wonderful family, where he will be loved, respected, completely cared for and given the wonderful life he truly deserves. With the help of generous monthly Sponsors like you, he’ll live out the rest of his days as healthy and happy as possible. We hope that you will choose to be his Sponsor Program pet parent – thank you!

March 2018

This international rescue has slowed down quite a bit, but is making the best of his golden years. His family makes sure he has plenty of love as well as his daily medications for his surgically repaired left front leg. It is through your support that Louie and other pets like him are able to recover from significant injuries and ailments, and go on to live fulfilling lives. Thank you!

December 2017

Now that summer is over, this senior boy enjoys spending lazy afternoons snoozing on the family couch with his favorite blanket. While Louie loves a good nap, he really looks forward to the evenings when his family is gathered together. This special time of the day is reserved for cuddling, and getting a much desired scratch behind the ears. Thanks to all of his loyal supporters who have helped this special guy truly live the good life.

September 2017

It’s the most wonderful time of the year as far as Deuce, called Louie by his family, is concerned. The senior dog, who entered the Pet Sponsor Program back in 2007, has always been a fan of summer fun! Louie’s summer has been full of lots of play time at the dog park and the occasional swim! Besides all of the outdoor fun, a peanut butter filled bone captivates him until he licks it completely clean. When tuckered out, you can always find him snuggled up with his family and snoozing away. What a wonderful life they have together – all thanks to your monthly giving!

June 2017

With Summer in full swing this senior gentleman is ready to enjoy the sun on his back and the warm breeze in his fur. Louie has slowed down a bit in his golden years, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t enjoying spending time with his loving family – whether it’s lounging around the house, playing with his toys, or taking long walks, this handsome fella is always the center of attention. This former international rescue pet, who entered the Pet Sponsor Program as a young dog after undergoing extensive surgery for an angular limb deformity in his left front leg, is still able to make the most out of every day thanks to the overwhelming support of his loyal sponsors. Without your generosity, animals like Louie would have never been afforded the luxury of enjoying a prosperous life well into his senior years.

March 2017

Louie has been enjoying indoor playtime with his family this winter. Their favorite game is hide-and-seek: Louie hides his favorite toy and the family times how long it takes him to find it. Sometimes they give him clues if he’s having trouble in his search. Weather permitting, short walks keep them all from going stir crazy and for providing a healthy dose of fresh air. No one can resist some cozy snuggle time with Louie. It all makes for a good winter season.

December 2016

Louie enjoyed a recent road trip to visit family including canine and feline cousins. It was the best family reunion all could remember and they can’t wait to get together again soon. Louie’s family offered to host the next one here in New York. Although it was so much fun to be on vacation, Louie was happy to be home in his own bed.

September 2016

Louie’s summer has been full of lots of play time at the dog park and his first dip in the Long Island Sound! Besides all of the outdoor fun, a peanut butter filled bone captivated him until he licked it completely clean. When tuckered out, you can always find him snuggled up with his family snoozing away. What a wonderful life they have together — all thanks to your monthly giving!

June 2016

Louie can’t get enough of snuggling up with his family and they are always ready for him! This strong and happy-go-lucky little guy amazingly came through the series of surgeries necessary to correct his turned-out right front leg. A daily dose of Cosequin, a nutritional supplement for optimal joint function, keeps him moving around as easily as possible. Thank YOU for making his life the best it can be with your monthly gift of life.

March 2016

Deuce (AKA Louie) is happy the weather is warming up so he can go on longer walks and see all of his buddies at the local dog park more often. His canine playmates can hardly keep up with him even with his challenging, right front leg. He’s the heart of his family who are so grateful to you for your monthly sponsorship that keeps him happy and healthy!

December 2015

Deuce (AKA Louie) – A daily supplement and plenty of exercise keeps Louie’s challenging, right front leg in tip-top shape. He loves to go on walks, have play dates at the local dog park and lay in the grass as much as any other dog. His family is amazed at all he has overcome—all thanks to your generosity.

September 2015

Deuce (AKA Louie) continues to be symptom-free – his family reports he is in good health and his leg is not bothering him. He spent a lot of time outside this summer – in fact his mom had a hard time getting him in the house! He loves rolling in the grass and going for walks. After all the medical procedures he had as a pup, we are very happy he is able to enjoy life like any other dog now – all thanks to his dedicated sponsors –thank you!

June 2015

Deuce is happiest romping around outside in the fresh air. His health continues to be good and he enjoys his walks with his mom. He shows no signs that his leg is bothering him, but we are there for him if there is a problem. We all couldn’t be happier for him and his family.

December 2014

Deuce (aka Louie) loves being outside in the cool fall air.  He takes long walks with his mom – something that did not seem possible when he came to the League as a puppy with a deformed paw.  He met a new dog in his neighborhood, and they sometimes go on walks together with their owners.  We are all glad Louie is doing so well and is such a happy dog.

September 2014

We are pleased to report Louie is doing very well. He loves the warm weather and is very content to be outside as much as possible – in fact his mom has a hard time getting him inside! Louie has been through a lot in his short life, and his current quality of life would not have been possible without his wonderful sponsors. Thanks to all of you, Louie received the medical care he needed, and should he need additional treatment, it will be available for him.

June 2014

Deuce is another one of our sponsor dogs who is very happy to be spending a lot of time outside during the spring season. Deuce is doing very well. His leg does not slow him down now that he can get out in his yard again! He still enjoys his cuddle time inside with his mom – but it is great to stretch his legs. A big thank you to all of his wonderful sponsors!

March 2014

Since Deuce hates the cold, his boundless energy was kept busy during these winter months with indoor games of chewing yummy bones, endlessly trying to get his treat out of the center of his Kong toy and playing fetch with his adopter. Afterwards, they would cuddle up on the couch together for some TV time. What a life, thanks to you and all the pet sponsors!

September 2013

Louie is doing great and moved to a house with a bigger yard. Now he has plenty of room to run and play! He is still the love of his family’s lives and is enjoying many fun summer days at the dog park! He is happy, healthy, and loving as always and his deformed left front leg doesn’t seem to slow him down. Thank you all for your monthly donations giving him the best life imaginable.

June 2013

Everyone is happy that the summer has arrived! Now Louie will spend more time at the local dog park with Griffin, his buddy. There is quite a bit of excitement when it’s time to walk to the park, just the walk sets him off. He has many dog friends there. He is the one that will get them all running in circles and riled up. He looks healthy, not overweight, has a healthy appetite, shiny coat and clear eyes. He has the good life.

March 2013

Deuce’s adopter reports: “He is doing really well, but he hates this cold weather so much so that when I walked him the other day …. I ended up carrying him home! We looked really silly! He also has a new habit of sleeping on the couch at night when he was never allowed on the furniture, but since the passing of our other dog we don’t get to upset and just think that he misses his sleeping partner.”

December 2012

Deuce has had a few tough months this year. Last month Kate, his adopted mother, noticed a little growth on his side, so she took him to her local veterinarian. It was a mass and they had it removed right away, just to be sure. Thank goodness, there was no cancer. As soon as Deuce was home he was ready to go, but the veterinarian recommended he stay calm for a week until the stitches came out. However, on a sad note, Deuce’s dog brother Griffin, who was only six years old, passed away very unexpectedly from an autoimmune disease. They never suspected a thing, and he never acted sick. Deuce is now very sad and has been staring at the door for a week, waiting for Griffin to come home. At least one good thing is that, the day before Griffin passed, the entire family spent the day on the beach near their home, their favorite thing to do during the warm weather. It was a beautiful memory watching the two in the water. A special bond has grown between Deuce and the cat that he never showed any interest in before. At night, they will run up and down the hall taking turns chasing each other, making quite a bit of noise. The weather is now cooler and they are taking extra long walks, one of Deuce’s favorite things to do.

September 2012

Did you know that Deuce (also known as Louie) has a favorite toy? Tennis balls! He loves to chase after them and can play with them for hours. He sleeps on a big, blue, comfortable dog bed in the family living room, his designated spot in the house. His adopted mother does not live too close to the Animal League’s Alex Lewyt Medical Center, so Deuce goes to a local veterinarian near his house. He is always a good patient and is not too afraid of the doctor. His adopted mother promises some new photos of Deuce soon that we will be posting on the Animal League’s website—stay tuned!

June 2012

Summertime is almost here, and that means more time for Deuce and his housemate dog Griffin to spend at the nearby dog park. The dog park, and even the walk getting there, provides Deuce with great excitement. He is agile and happy when he is around all the other dogs. He gets them riled up and running in circles. This is great exercise for Deuce. He is at his ideal weight and his coat is shiny. Deuce is due at the Animal League’s medical center for a routine check-up soon, and we are hoping for a good report.

March 2012

Deuce (aka Louie) is enjoying the cold weather. Even though he doesn’t get as many trips to the dog park in the wintertime, he seems content. He’ll run around in the house chasing tennis balls if he can’t go outside to do it. He has completely settled into his new home. He has a morning, afternoon and bedtime routine established. He’s up-to-date on his exams and vaccinations. His devoted adopted mother makes sure he gets the medical care and love that he needs and deserves. She is thankful for the support of Deuce’s Sponsors and would like to wish them a happy and healthy New Year.

December 2011

Although Deuce enjoys his daily walks, his favorite pastime is going to the local dog park to catch his favorite toy – tennis balls. He’s a real attention getter! He shows off for both humans and other dogs. It’s hard not to pet him when you meet him because he’s so cute and lovable – a big mush his foster mother tells us! He’s got quite a large appetite and once his belly is full, he likes to relax by the back sliding glass doors so that he can fall asleep watching the ducks and geese going by his water view. He’s adjusted extremely well to his new townhome by the water. He continues to be affectionate with his housemate dog, Griffin. Thankfully, his leg does not require further surgery at this time.

March 2011

We are happy to report that Deuce (aka Louie) is doing well. He’s been enjoying the cold weather, especially the snow. He loves to run and play outside for hours. He’s in great shape and can run very fast even with his medical condition. He has a great appetite and is always in a good mood. Deuce is living the best quality of life possible. His foster mother dotes on him and spoils him with treats, toys and extra special cuddling time. We are hoping that Deuce has a year free of any special surgeries.

December 2010

Deuce is looking forward to the cooler months ahead. He loves the outdoors any time of year, but his foster mother knows he’ll have a blast in the snow and ice. Although he was born in the Caribbean, he can appreciate the snow and his great attitude can adapt to anything. He enjoys playing with all his dog friends in the neighborhood. He’s become quite attached to a beautiful, female Husky dog down the block. Together, they frolic in delight. Deuce is eating well and seems very happy.

September 2010

Deuce (also known as Louie) is doing well! According to his foster mother, Kate, the summer is definitely his favorite time of year. She thinks that is because he was rescued from the Cayman Islands and can appreciate the tropical heat! He enjoys seeing all of his new, neighborhood friends around their townhouse community. There is one special female Husky dog at the end of the block that he plays with any chance he can get. His foster mother thinks he might be falling in love with this beautiful pooch! All in all, Deuce has made a remarkable transformation into his new home with his loving foster family.

June 2010

We are so proud of Deuce. He quickly acclimated to his new surroundings. He loves all the extra room his new house has to offer, especially the large backyard to run and play in. He remains close with his playmate, dog Griffin, and has made a few new dog friends at the nearby dog park. Deuce is a very friendly dog; you don’t have to worry about him being aggressive with other animals. Thankfully, there are no discussions of corrective surgery for Deuce this year. His angular limb deformity of his left front leg, which gives the appearance that his leg is turned out, is not hindering his quality of life at this time. Deuce remains on Cosequin, a nutritional supplement to help maintain optimal joint function and he is doing well maintaining the proper weight so as not to cause undue stress on his limbs.

March 2010

Winter seems to be dragging on and our cutie pie Deuce is looking forward to springtime weather…if it ever comes. He loves outdoor play, especially with his favorite buddy, housemate dog Griffin. No matter what the weather, he relies on any opportunity to walk around the neighborhood. Natural instincts prevail, and Deuce is simply a curious fellow, who smells everything in sight. He’s energetic, but docile when required – we think that’s a great combination of traits. We couldn’t be more pleased with his progress in his loving foster care home and his medical condition remains under control with consistent monitoring from a group of devoted people that love to care for Deuce.

December 2009

Deuce, renamed Louie by his adoptive mother, is reportedly doing great. He recently spent time at a fancy doggy day spa and it seems as if he could get used to a pampered lifestyle! He loves the autumn season and running around outside, so when the rain comes he gets rather lethargic and gloomy. We are looking forward to seeing how he reacts to the snow – we think he’s going to absolutely love it. Deuce is still close with his best dog friend, Griffin. His front leg seems to be holding up fine as well. His foster mother often comments on his alertness, his high energy level and that he is a bundle of life that she feels very blessed to have as part of her family.

September 2009

We have exciting news to report on Deuce! First, he has been officially adopted by his devoted foster mother! Due to his lifelong medical condition, Deuce will remain under the care of the Animal League’s life-saving Sponsor Program. Second, it has been determined by Animal League veterinarians that Deuce will not require another surgery on his leg at this time. As a Sponsor Program pet, the Animal League will closely monitor Deuce for the rest of his life. Your monthly donations for Deuce and all the special-needs pets ensure their health and happiness forever. Thank you for your love of these animals and your support towards their care.

June 2009

Deuce, our newest special-needs dog enrolled into the Sponsor Program, is a wonderful dog that all the staff agrees has a great temperament! We are happy to report that Deuce is feeling well and seems very happy in his foster care home. His foster care mother Kate, works here at the Animal League, which means we get to see a lot of Deuce and that means he gets constant and much appreciated attention! He is receiving the best care possible at this time and we promise to closely monitor him and provide all that he needs to improve his quality of life with the help of generous monthly Sponsorship supporters like you – thank you!
