North Shore Animal League America opened its doors to its Friskies Cat Habitat on July 22, 2004. It was designed and constructed by Purina, who consulted with a well-known cat behaviorist, as an alternative to cages. All of the surfaces are covered in cat-friendly materials including sisal-covered scratching surfaces, carpets, foam and hidden nooks for exploring and napping. Here the feline inhabitants are able to roam freely, play, and socialize with the other pussycat residents 24 hours a day.

Located right across the street from our adoption center, the Cat Habitat gives our cats a chance to stretch their legs, sharpen their claws and mingle with their peers. It is especially helpful to and appreciated by the cats who have been in our care more than 30 days. In addition, the Cat Habitat also helps adopters by giving them a better view of our cats' spunky and playful personalities and allowing them to witness them in a home-like setting. And to encourage the adoption of our adult cats, all adoption fees for cats in the Habitat are waived!

Etta James
Name: Etta James
Adoption #: D46779
Gender: F
Age: Adult

Etta James is a loveable adult kitty who hopes to find her very own permanent home. She is a big girl who needs lots of love and has plenty of love to give in return. Etta can be very affectionate and will warm up after some time. She can sometimes get uncomfortable when being handled or pet by someone she is not familiar with. Due to the fact that she is shy, she would do best in a quiet home where she can take her time getting comfortable at her own pace.

Marmoset
Name: Marmoset
Adoption #: D45128
Gender: F
Age: Adult

Unfortunately, I was abandoned by my previous owners. I have been at the Animal League now for quite sometime. They have taken such great care of me, but it’s not quite the same as having a real home and a real family of my very own. I am somewhat of a shy girl, but I have a great personality. While I truly adore human companionship, I’m also content spending time on my own.

If you are interested in adopting Marmoset, contact ChristinaT@AnimalLeague.org

Ruth
Name: Ruth
Adoption #: MA0459
Gender: F
Age: Adult

Ruth is a gorgeous independent woman! She was rescued some time ago from a municipal shelter and had a bit of a rough start here at the Animal League. She was very nervous, especially in her cage. Ruth is doing much better at the cat habitat where she gets to lounge around and hang out with the other cats and nap on her favorite window sill. Ruth is a cuddly couch potato and will love to sit right next to you on the sofa. She's not the type of girl that will be mushy all the time, but will let you know when she wants some loving. It is very rewarding to build a relationship with Ruth. Ruth would do well in a low-traffic home without any young children. Come meet pretty Ruth today!

Shadow is a very relaxed, calm boy. He enjoys neck, belly and chin rubs after warming up to you. Timmy
Name: Timmy
Adoption #: H127705
Gender: M
Age: Young Adult

Timmy is a gorgeous young adult. He loves spending his time in the cat habitat with his other cat pals. Timmy is a very high-energy cat, but also loves nothing more than to snuggle up in his bed near the window, in the sunlight. His favorite toy is the kitty laser pointer and he loves to zoom across the room chasing the "light." His other favorite toy is the cat teaser toy, a rod with a long row of feathers attached - he practically does back flips for this one! Timmy does take some time to get to know you, but once he does, he'll be your best friend forever. When you gain his trust, he'll let you rub him under the chin and he’ll purr for you. Please come to the cat habitat and meet Timmy today!
