December 10, 2012 (Port Washington, NY) – Tis the season of giving, and in that spirit, Animal League America has just launched the “Mutt-i-grees® Express,” a humane relocation program that transports thousands of animals to a new life. On its inaugural cross-country journey, The Mutt-i-grees® Express is granting over 120 animals tickets to a new life, in collaboration with the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation & MuttNation.

Emmy Award Winning Actress Katherine Heigl’s Jason Debus Heigl Foundation joined in the Mutt-i-grees Express effort in L.A. County, C.A. Through the collaborative effort of the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and Animal League America nearly 100 Mutt-i-grees were given a ticket to a new life aboard the Mutt-i-grees Express. Country Music Superstar Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation teamed up with the Mutt-i-grees Express in Tishomingo, Oklahoma welcoming more Mutt-i-grees along for the journey. Once the dogs and puppies arrive at their final destination at Animal League America’s Adoption Headquarters they will be medically and behaviorally evaluated and will begin to go up for adoption on Wednesday, December 12, 2012.

Both The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and MuttNation share Animal League America’s mission to rescue, nurture and adopt as many homeless animals as possible; thus, collaboration with organizations such as these has been invaluable in transforming Animal League America’s nationwide humane relocation program into its new incarnation as Mutt-i-grees Express.

“Saving the lives of innocent animals is a mission of the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and this rescue is JUST ONE of the many ways we can work together to end the euthanasia of 10,000 pets a day,” said Co-Founder of the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, Katherine Heigl.

“We are so excited about MuttNation’s new partnership with North Shore Animal League America,” said MuttNation Founder and Country Music Star Miranda Lambert. “MuttNation’s mission to encourage shelter adoption, end animal suffering and homelessness is one we hold very dear to our hearts and by teaming up with Animal League America we will be able to save the lives of so many dogs! It’s a real match made in doggie heaven!”

This humane relocation effort has already been Animal League America’s most far-reaching program to date, responsible for saving more than 150,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens since the program’s inception in 1991. But the coming year marks the beginning of a whole new era as the journey of the Mutt-i-grees Express begins.

“While Animal League America practices a no-kill philosophy, many other shelters are forced to euthanize due to the lack of space and resources, resulting in approximately 4 million shelter pets unnecessarily dying each year,” ” said North Shore Animal League America President John Stevenson. “Now, thanks to the Mutt-i-grees Express, countless numbers of animal passengers are on the fast track to Animal League America’s Adoption Headquarters – and from there, a wonderful new life in a loving home.”

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation was founded by Nancy and Katherine Heigl in loving memory of their son and brother, Jason, who was killed in a truck accident at the age of 15. Jason loved all animals. The Foundation extends his legacy of compassion and concern for the voiceless and innocent by funding efforts to end the euthanizing of 10,000 pets a day and improving their lives through a variety of programs: from funding spay/neuter surgeries to assisting rescue organizations. Just One was established to help fund the worthy efforts of the foundation and to support other animal advocacy programs. For more information please visit and

The Foundation's mission is to raise funds through donations from the officers and directors of the Foundation and the general public, through direct donations, occasional benefit concerts and other fundraising mechanisms in order to support other 501(c)(3) organizations and governmental institutions or entities whose purpose is to build animal shelters for better care; increase pet adoption and encourage responsible pet guardianship; rehabilitate sick or unsocialized animals; fund spay/neuter programs; reduce/eliminate euthanasia of healthy animals; and train shelter dogs for purposes of therapy programs, assistance for wounded military personnel and dogs-in-prisons programs.
