Mobile Rescue Unit 1: On the road againPosted by on August 31, 2008
Here we are on the road again, on our way down South to help where needed. This is my third trip on a Hurricane Rescue mission and I have an idea of what to expect and where my strengths lie. For Hank, this is his first Hurricane Rescue. We are on our way to Birmingham, AL. We will meet up with Jacque and the staff at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and wait until the storm passes. After which, we will deploy to any affected area which requires our assistance.
Along the way, I caught Hank up to date on what Hurricane Rescue entails. From my experience with Hurricane Katrina, we can be deployed at any time, day or night, and anything can happen. I remember signing animals in at 11 o’clock at night and not finishing up until early the next morning. It was all hard work, but well worth every minute knowing the animals were out of harm’s way.
Well, at the end of the first day of driving, we made it outside of Knoxville, TN. Tomorrow we continue on to Birmingham and keep a close on the storm and especially to see where it is going to make land fall.
