Update: August 2012

Great news! JuJubee has been adopted by her volunteer foster family, who has been caring for the sweet dog since March 2012.

After receiving extensive treatment to repair her broken jaw and rid her of heartworm, JuJubee was taken in by Tracy (pictured right), her foster parent, who patiently tended to the dog’s medical and behavioral needs.

“She was very scared and quiet at first,” says Tracy, who has fostered other dogs. “It took a few months for her begin to open up, but now she is a totally different dog from the traumatized girl that we took in.”

Along with a wonderful human family, which includes Tracy, her husband and her two children, JuJubee has a canine brother, Clyde, also a rescue from Animal League America. JuJubee also has a new name: Bonnie. The dynamic duo of Bonnie and Clyde are a perfect match, according to Tracy. “Bonnie and Clyde are best friends,” she says. “They play together and sleep together. They’re so cute to watch.”

All of us at Animal League America are thrilled that this wonderful dog, whose life started out in such a traumatic way, has found the perfect home.

Update: June 2012

JuJubee, a sweet, female adult Boston Terrier, is still recovering from surgery to repair her broken jaw. She is living in a foster home and was rechecked by Animal League veterinarians in the beginning of June. They determined that while she is recovering nicely, her bones still need some more time to heal. She returned to her foster family and will be re-seen by our vets in late June. We will keep you updated on her progress.

Update: May 2012

JuJubee was put on a regimen of medication to rid her of heartworm, which can be fatal if not treated. It worked like a charm. Next, she underwent reconstructive surgery to repair her broken jaw. The procedure was a complete success, and JuJubee is now comfortably recuperating in a foster home with one of our devoted volunteers. As soon as she is completely healed, she will be placed for adoption.

JuJubee's Story

Unfortunately, this sweet Boston Terrier spent the first two years of her life in a puppy mill, forced to have litter after litter of puppies.

When our rescue team brought her to the safety of the Animal League, our veterinary staff discovered that JuJubee not only has life-threatening heartworm disease, but she also has a broken jaw—an old and painful injury that had been completely neglected and untreated.

Due to the nature of the injury, it is likely that JuJubee suffered this fracture as a result of a traumatic event.

We have already started JuJubee on the regimen of medication to rid her of heartworm, which can be fatal if not treated, and she requires extensive reconstructive surgery to repair her broken jaw. She will need months of aftercare and medication to heal from these injuries.

Will you please help?

Without the Animal League and its supporters, JuJubee, who had outlived her “usefulness” as a breeding dog to the mill owners, would most certainly have been destroyed.
