Accomplished actress, business woman, philanthropist and NY Times Best Selling author Denise Richards visited North Shore Animal League America on Friday, November 9th to provide vital help in spreading the word about our disaster relief efforts and to encourage adoptions during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Dozens of pets were relocated from evacuated shelters in flood stricken areas by NSALA’s Emergency Response Team. Now with over 650 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at Animal League America’s National Adoption Headquarters in Port Washington, NY, dedicated staff members have worked around the clock to ensure all animals were safe and being care for, while they were being evaluated and getting ready for adoption.
Denise Richards’ hands on volunteerism highlights the specific attention that is given to each animal, even during a disaster. This includes, walking dogs, socializing puppies and bottle feeding motherless kittens that would not have survived in the storm without this help. Her visit to Animal League America has helped raise awareness of the importance of adoption. If families who have considered adoption (and are in a position to do so, following this devastating hurricane) should do so – this will allow the Animal League to continue rescuing other animals that need help or are at risk of being euthanized.
During her visit, Denise and her family fell in love with Tara, now named Lily, the Labrador Mutt-i-gree puppy and welcomed her into their home!
