That’s Mutt-i-grees Country!

Miranda Lambert and North Shore Animal League America team up to host Tail Waggin Tail Gate Parties and find homes for shelter pets

She’s a country powerhouse whose fans are among the most devoted in the music world. But Miranda Lambert has a large pack of fans who literally owe their lives to this animal-loving superstar. As co-founder (with her Mom, Bev) of MuttNation Foundation, Miranda works tirelessly to end animal cruelty and homelessness by promoting the adoption of shelter pets, otherwise known as Mutt-i-grees.

North Shore Animal League America recently teamed up with Miranda, joining her at MuttNation’s Tail Waggin Tail Gate Parties prior to some of her shows out west. For three consecutive concert stops from May 16-18, 2013, one of our Mobile Rescue & Adoption Units showcased adoptable Mutt-i-grees from an animal welfare group in the region: HALO Animal Rescue in Phoenix, Watermelon Mountain Ranch in Albuquerque and The Humane Society of the South Platte Valley in Denver.

Before each show, Miranda stopped by the event, meeting and greeting the Mutt-i-grees, fans, and staff and volunteers from Animal League America and its partners in rescue. And at the beginning of the concerts, huge video screens displayed photos of these adorable animals, to the “oohs” and “aahs” of the appreciative audience.

“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Miranda and MuttNation to further the cause we all share: to rescue, nurture and adopt the innocent animals from shelters and rescue groups who are in need of loving homes,” says Joanne Yohannan, Senior VP of Operations at Animal League America. “Miranda is a true champion for Mutt-i-grees, and when we join together at adoption events like the Tail Waggin Tail Gate parties, as well as our recent joint efforts to help animals displaced by tornadoes in Oklahoma, we can make such a huge difference.”

Miranda calls the partnership a life-long dream come true. “MuttNation’s mission to encourage shelter adoption, end animal suffering and homelessness is one we hold very dear to our hearts, and by teaming up with North Shore Animal League America, we will be able to save the lives of so many dogs,” says Miranda. “It’s a real match made in doggie heaven!”

Events such as the Tail Waggin Tail Gate Parties not only helped find homes for shelter pets on the day of the concert, but they also were a powerful platform to educate people about the benefits of adopting from the animal rescue organizations in their region, which will lead to more adoptions in the future.

“Ten of our animals were adopted at the Tail Gate Party, which was fantastic, but just as important was the fact that we got so much exposure,” says Leslie Maisonneuve, Shelter Director at the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley, which opened in December 2009. “Being relatively new, not everyone knows about us. The more people who discover we are there, the more adoptions we do—and the more animals we can save.”

Erin Denmark, Development Coordinator for HALO Animal Rescue, also believes that awareness is a key benefit of these joint efforts. “We’re honored that MuttNation Foundation and North Shore Animal League America choose HALO Animal Rescue to participate in this amazing event,” she says. “We had great exposure, some adoptions and generous donations. Our staff and volunteers look forward to working with everyone in the future. “

Animal League America’s longtime partners at Watermelon Mountain Ranch had high praises for everyone involved in the adoption event. “North Shore Animal League was great to work with and made this very easy for us, and MuttNation was so accommodating and helpful during the entire event,” says Sara Garrigan, Deputy Director at Watermelon Mountain Ranch. “The partnership we have had with North Shore over the last several years has been invaluable.”
