Hurricane Ike –2008

Posted by on September 13, 2008

We are closing in on our destination…San Antonio, Texas. These roads are all too familiar to Claire and me as this is our third emergency rescue in the South in the last three weeks. Mike Novellino one of our top drivers is also en route with us.

While our rescue team has really been called to action a lot over the past month, and we are definitely feeling a bit worn down, the one thing we never get tired of though is saving the lives of innocent animals.

We spoke to our shelter partners in San Antonio and Houston today, and everyone there is safe, and the animals are ready to be transported back to the Animal League. We’re so grateful that before Ike arrived, our shelter partners were able to remove so many animals from shelters near the Texas coastal areas – shelters that may now be flooded and without electricity. We’ll know a lot more tomorrow and will report in again then.

In the meantime, there are still so many animals at our Port Washington shelter that need to find homes so we can make space for animals we bring back with us. If you’re looking to adopt a pet, now is the time to come and adopt at the Animal League. Save a life and help us continue what we never get tired of doing, RESCUING, NURTURING & ADOPTING animals to loving homes!

Again, we’ll have a lot more to report tomorrow.

Thanks for your support,
Diane, Claire and Mike
