The Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center
The Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center cares for all of the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that come to our Rescue & Adoption Center each year.
This hospital was opened in 1992 and is dedicated to the memory of Alex Lewyt, the Animal League’s first President and Chairman of the Board.
Inside, a highly trained medical staff provides our shelter pets with a full range of medical services and care, from routine vaccinations to spay/neuter procedures and more complicated surgeries. Each week, over 150 animals are hospitalized and over 200 outpatients receive examinations and treatment. Additionally, 27,000 vaccinations are administered annually to keep our former residents happy and healthy.
The Medical Center is located inside our Pet Health Center, just past the Adoption Center.
A Second Chance at Life
This nationally respected facility includes pet- and owner-friendly examination and waiting rooms, a surgery suite rivaling those in human hospitals, and an Intensive Care Unit providing around-the-clock care to heal the sickest pets. Puppies and kittens with contagious but curable diseases, many that would be destroyed elsewhere, receive top-quality medical care in our Pediatric Isolation Wards.
