Current Volunteer Openings
Cat volunteers help care for and comfort the cats on the adoption floor, behind the scenes and in the Cat Habitat, as well as provide customer service to potential adopters.
Dog walker volunteers provide much-needed exercise, attention and socialization for the adult dogs in the adoption center.
Foster Care Parents have the opportunity to care for an animal that’s not yet ready for adoption.
Assist veterinarians and technicians by providing comfort, care and feeding to rescued animals that need extra monitoring and maintain cleanliness of medical center cages and exam rooms.
Conduct assembly and classroom programs as well as conduct tours of the shelter and assist with internships for schools from the tri-state area that are implementing the Mutt-i-grees curriculum.
Play a crucial role in finding homes for animals at mobile adoption events, as well as provide customer service to potential adopters.
Assist the trainers with daily duties as assigned, i.e., housebreaking walks, making shreds and preparing Kong’s, distribute bones and toys, feed and medicate, etc. Not an entry-level position.
Assist program coordinator with placement and care of adult cats in the successful adoption program with selected Petland Discount stores in the five boroughs of New York City.
Help care for and comfort the puppies and kittens in the Adoption Center and behind the scenes. Provide customer service to potential adopters.
Assist with follow-up telephone calls and e-mails to recent adopters to ensure that adopters’ needs are being met and check on the welfare of the NSALA animals.
To assist with and complete thorough home visits of all NSALA animals on a given route, ensuring that adopters are in compliance with the terms of NSALA’s adoption contract, and the completion of administrative tasks assigned within the Quality Care Department.

Responsible for interacting with residents in senior and specialized health care facilities bringing shelter puppies to visit and providing the healing benefits of animal companionship and love.
