Donor Privacy Policy

The North Shore Animal League America, Inc. (“North Shore Animal League” or “we” or “us”), understands your concerns about privacy and your interest in knowing how your information is used and safeguarded when you make a donation to us, and we want to provide you with more information on these topics.  We have created this Donor Privacy Policy (the “Donor Policy”) in order to provide our donors with complete information related to our practices, policies and procedures in relation to all of the information that we collect from them. Please note that this Donor Policy applies all information collected both online – including from our website located at (the “Website”) - and offline, from all venues and means, as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications. We may update this Donor Policy from time to time, so please check this Donor Policy periodically for changes. The date this Donor Policy was last updated is stated at the end of this document. If we make any substantive changes to this Donor Policy, we will use best efforts to contact you via the email address and/or postal address that you may have provided to us. If you have any questions about this Donor Policy, please do not hesitate to contact us at

The Information We Collect From Donors: The only personal information that we collect from donors is the information that you voluntarily provide to us.  For example, if you opt to make a donation by “clicking” the “donate” button on our Website, or if you donate to us via another website or venue with which we partner, we will collect (or such other website or venue will collect on our behalf) certain personally identifiable information, which may include your name, email address, postal address and payment information.  In regard to processing your donations – whether or not processed through a third-party payment processor - the payment information you provide to us will only be used to process your donation, and will not be stored or used for any other purpose.  Please note, that except as specified below under the heading “How We May Share your Information,” we do not sell, rent, share, trade or otherwise make available the names and personal information of our donors with any other organization or entity.  Additionally, we do not send emails to our donors on behalf of other organizations or entities.

How We May Share And Use Your Information: We may periodically exchange donor postal mailing lists with other organizations, who similarly provide us with their mailing lists.  Mailing list exchanges provides us with a cost effective way to potentially expand our donor base by obtaining the names and addresses of other likely donors.  We screen all such offers and strive to select trustworthy, reputable companies who offer high-quality products or services that we believe will be of interest to our donors.   Please note that each mailing list exchange or rental limits the recipient organization's use to one promotional effort, and thereafter the names are discarded and not used again on behalf of such organization.   Although all mailing list exchanges are managed by a third-party vendor, at no time will such vendor have access to our donor names and addresses.  Please note that we do not exchange or rent email addresses. If you prefer that we do not exchange your name and postal address, please call (516) 883-7575 or send a written request to: North Shore Animal League America, 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050 Attn: Customer Service.  Also, please note that many direct mail fundraisers or companies routinely suppress any names and addresses on the Direct Marketing Association’s do not mail directory to honor all who have joined this list.  If you are interested in being added to the Direct Marketing Association’s do not mail directory, please contact the Direct Marketing Association, Inc. by writing to 1615 L Street, Washington, DC 20036 or calling 212-768-7277, ext. 1888.
We may also share donor postal mailing lists with companies who sell products or services through direct mail, and in conjunction with mission-related mailings, we may also mail our donors information related to our corporate partners.  Additionally, periodically donors may also be sent emails related to select corporate partnership programs.  For example, donors may be sent i) emails with information on select companies or products with whom we have “cause marketing” arrangements, and ii) emails announcing a sponsorship relationship, and iii) an email invitation to co-branded events between North Shore Animal League and a corporate supporter. We do not provide donors’ names or contact information to such corporate sponsors or partners.

Changes to Our Donor Privacy Policy: We reserve the right to revise this Donor Policy at any time by updating this posting. Please check back regularly and to see if there have been any changes to this policy, which you can determine by reviewing the Effective Date listed below. If we make material changes to this Donor Policy, we will use our best efforts to notify you of such changes.  If you no longer wish to be considered a donor of North Shore Animal League, you can email us at any time at requesting that your name and contact information be removed from donor database; we will endeavor to comply with all such requests within a commercially reasonable timeframe.  By continuing to remain a donor after any such changes are made to this Donor Policy, you agree to be bound by the revised Donor Policy.

This Donor Policy is effective as of November 1, 2016.

General Privacy Policy

Welcome to, which is brought to you by North Shore Animal League of America ("Animal League" or "our" or "we" or "us"). This Privacy Policy is designed to explain the Animal League’s, and any of its sub-domains and other web sites operated by or for Animal League (collectively, the "Sites") online information-gathering practices regarding the Site. The Privacy Policy describes how the Sites collect, use, and share personally identifiable information and other non-personally identifiable information obtained from and about individuals who visit the Sites. The Internet presents an opportunity for us to reach our audience with Animal League information and activities such as, but not limited to, sweepstakes, contests, offers, newsletters, and other promotions. It also presents visitors to our Sites with an opportunity to become a My League member and to participate in fund raising/donation activities. We are committed to providing and maintaining these opportunities in a safe and secure environment for our visitors.

If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, or any of its terms, please do not provide your personally identifiable information ("PII"), for example, your name, address, telephone number, or email address. From time to time, and at any time, this Privacy Policy may be revised or changed. We will notify you about what we believe to be material changes and their respective effective date(s) in the way we treat PII by sending a notice to the primary email address you have specified and by placing a prominent notice on the Sites. Sites users should review this Privacy Policy periodically to be up-to-date on the Sites most current privacy policies and practices.

Collection of Your Personal Identifiable Information ("PII") and Other Non-PII: The Sites are intended to provide a unique experience for users without requiring them to submit any more PII than is necessary to participate in particular activities that may be offered, or to use the Sites effectively. We currently do not require users to register or submit PII in order to visit the Sites. Some activities on the Sites may be performed without providing PII. When we ask for PII to participate in an activity we will not require anyone to disclose more PII than we believe is reasonably necessary to participate in the activity. At times, users may be asked to provide non-PII such as first name, age, gender, zip code, city, and/or state of residence.

For Persons Under the Age of 18: We will not knowingly accept/collect information from persons under the age of 18. Should we find that we have unwittingly accepted/collected such information we will use reasonable efforts to remove the information.

The PII you disclose for these and similar activities may be shared with third parties such as those who may administer the activity for us and shipping companies that may deliver a prize or product. Further, if you accept an offer contained in, for example, an email, we may provide the advertiser or business partner (if any) with the PII necessary to fulfill that offer to you. Opt-ins can be selected when you complete your communication preferences if or when those preferences are offered, or otherwise. If you do not want to receive such promotional information from third parties, do not opt-in to receive them. You can change your communication preferences if and when offered, and remove yourself from our email lists at any time by updating your preferences. Your PII may further still be used to comply with applicable law, for example, but not limited, to comply with valid legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena, or court order, and to report sweepstakes and contest winnings as may be required by law. And it may be used in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify or contact you, or bring legal action against you if, for example but not limited to, we believe that you may be causing injury to, or interference with, our Sites or the Animal League’s rights or property, or other users of the Sites, whether your actions are intentional or unintentional. Further, your PII may be shared with any successors and/or assigns we may have. If you wish to change your decisions to "opt-out" or to "opt-in" as applicable, you can email us at
