Update: December 2011

Beetle is fully recovered and has been adopted into a new, loving home! Thanks to all our supporters who helped Beetle heal!

Update: August 2011

Beetle is recovering comfortably in a foster care home that the Animal League provided. Foster care homes allow sick or injured animals like Beetle a quiet place in a home setting to recover. Foster care homes also help prepare animals to be pets. They get acclimated to a home-like setting, learn potty-training, manners and other basic pet necessities.

Beetle's leg is healing very well. The fracture is almost completely healed; however, the flexibility of the joint is still in question. His splint was removed and we are looking to re-evaluate his mobility shortly. We will give you another update after his next checkup.

Beetle's Story

Recently, North Shore Animal League America rescued Beetle, a 10-week-old, male kitten and placed him in the life-saving Help Me Heal Program. Beetle had allegedly been thrown from a car window and suffered severe injuries. At only one and a half pounds, Beetle has already had one surgery, and he is likely to need another in the future.

Beetle has suffered a protrusion of her abdominal-cavity referred to as inguinal hernia. Parts of his intestines have come through his lower abdomen. This type of hernia requires surgery. In addition, Beetle has a severe fracture of his front left leg. The fracture is very close to the joint and shattered, which will make repairing it particularly challenging. The leg may also require surgery.

Because Beetle is so tiny, his injuries are very delicate and quite serious. His recovery process will be at least several months, and he will require constant care and monitoring.

You can help Beetle get well. When you support the Help Me Heal Program, you’re helping to ensure that Beetle, and all of the Animal League’s dogs, cats, puppies and kittens get the extensive care they need to be healthy and happy. Please donate today.
