Sallie's Fund: Sallie's Story
When Sallie, the beautiful dog pictured here, became suddenly ill in early January 2013, her owner Dawn rushed her to a 24-hour emergency veterinary practice. Sallie was diagnosed with diabetes with severe complications. But the complications were just beginning: The vet handed Dawn a nearly $6,000 bill—with $4,000 due immediately to even begin treating the gravely ailing dog. It was money she simply didn’t have, but she wouldn’t give up on her beloved pup.
Luckily, Dawn learned of North Shore Animal League America’s Pet Health Center—an affordable, high-quality medical center that puts pets before profits. Sallie was treated at a fraction of the original cost.
Sallie lost her vision to diabetes, but she is back home where she belongs, happy and loved in Dawn’s care. In honor of the brave dog, we began “Sallie’s Fund,” designed to help pet owners cover the cost of unexpected emergencies.
All contributions to Sallie’s Fund go directly to the care of ailing animals being treated at Animal League America’s Pet Health Center. Thank you for your generosity!
