Meet Lana

Lana came to North Shore Animal League America when she was only about six months old. Not only is she blind, but she is also subject to severe seizures.

Lana has been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia, a condition in which the cerebellum of the brain fails to develop properly. It’s very possible that this disorder causes Lana’s seizures. To control this issue, she takes medications that she’ll require the rest of her life. Her sweet and affectionate nature tells us that none of Lana’s issues get her down. The Pet Sponsorship Program insures that she’ll always get the medical attention and cuddles she needs.

2024 Updates

February 2024

Lana is having a lot of fun “helping” her coworkers in the Pet Health Centers where she resides, but her heart is hopeful that a more permanent home is in her future. Issues with seizures and impaired vision haven’t impacted her determination! She was recently diagnosed with FLUTD and has a special diet added to her plan. Thanks to her Sponsors, Lana’s future adopter will find caring for her as easy as loving her for the rest of her life.

November 2023

Lana has her share of devoted fans, including her medical team, who are always striving to find the most comfortable way for her to navigate life with her vision and balance obstacles. When they discovered she was having difficulty grooming herself, they gave her a lion-cut for summer. Oh boy does she like being a lioness! Our vets also collaborated with specialists to learn more about her neurological issues and discovered she doesn’t have Cerebellar Hypoplasia; her wobbliness is likely a result of neurological deficits. Regardless of the findings, Lana is content to be prowling around—no matter how wobbly—with her lion tail held high!

May 2023

Lana continues to astonish her caretakers in the Pet Health Centers with her never-ending can-do spirit! She’s been busy serving as a very resourceful team member and emotional support friend to the other patients undergoing treatment. Lana has befriended many cats and dogs in the time she’s stayed there, and we’re hoping her future home will have some furry friends to repay the favor. Until then, she’s earning her stay by brightening the day of everyone she meets!

This precocious girl has been the focus of our attention since she arrived as a kitten in need of our vet’s help to sort out some medical issues. Her cerebellar hypoplasia has led to issues with seizures and impaired vision—but that hasn’t impacted her determination! Now that the vets have a successful plan in place, we’re looking for a family who’ll take over the wonderful care she’s received.

Lana does not need to have her eyesight to know that she has loving caregivers all around her. Her medical condition means that she is prone to seizures, and she has been in rehab due to an increase in her seizure activity. We will continue to adjust Lana’s medication and conduct any neurological evaluations necessary so that we can give this gorgeous girl the best quality of life possible.
