At NSALA, we provide a comprehensive and competitive benefit program designed to meet the needs of our associates and their families. Highlights of our benefits include:

Health Coverage

Medical, hospitalization, dental, vision and prescription drug plans are offered through United Healthcare Choice Plus.

Health Flexible Spending Account

North Shore Animal League America offers eligible employees the opportunity to enroll in a Health Flexible Spending Account plan (FSA), enabling them to set aside money, on a pre-tax basis via payroll deduction, for many kinds of common unreimbursed healthcare, dental and vision expenses such as office visit copays, prescription drugs, orthodontia and eyewear. Funds contributed to an FSA reduce taxable income because there are no Federal, State, or FICA taxes deducted from the elected amount.

Life Insurance

Eligible employees are covered at no cost for basic term Life Insurance/Accidental Death and Dismemberment.

  • Exempt employees: 1½ times your annual salary
  • Non-exempt employees: $20,000
  • Executives: 3½ times your annual salary to a maximum of $350,000

401k Plan

Our 401(k) Plan allows eligible employees to save for retirement by deferring a percentage of their pre – tax earnings beginning as early as the first day of the month following employment.

Time-Off

We provide generous paid time off which includes vacation, personal and sick time.  In addition, employees are entitled to twelve legal holidays, plus an extra day to celebrate their birthday!

Jury Duty

If you serve on a jury on your normally scheduled work days you will be paid for those days.

Disability Insurance

  • Non-exempt employees:  New York State and Voluntary Short-Term Plans are available to employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week (premium required for the Voluntary Plan).
  • Exempt Employees: Short and Long-Term disability coverage is available and is fully paid for by North Shore Animal League America.

Employee Referral Award Program

If the person you refer is hired and successfully completes the required 90 day Orientation Period, you will receive a $200 award for referring a great employee.

Continuing Education Reimbursement for Veterinarians & Licensed Veterinary Technicians

A portion of CE expenses will be reimbursed to eligible Veterinarians and Licensed Veterinarian Technicians after being employed for a minimum of 6 months.

Tuition Assistance Program for Veterinary Assistants

North Shore Animal League America will reimburse eligible Veterinary Assistants for pre-approved tuition expenses to obtain additional educational training to qualify for the position of Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Employee Assistance Program

This confidential counseling program is available to all employees and their families who have personal or work related concerns and wish to speak privately with a qualified counselor.

Medical Care for Pets

Provided through our Alex Lewyt Medical Center, pet medical care commences after 90 days of employment.
