North Shore Animal League America is currently seeking a highly organized, energetic, and enthusiastic Foster Care-Volunteer Associate to assist with the daily operations of the Foster and Volunteer departments by providing support for the NSALA Foster, Volunteer, the VolunTEEN programs, and other volunteer special initiatives and events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Volunteer Program & Foster Care Recruitment, Onboarding, and Training:

  • Assist with reviewing incoming volunteer and VolunTEEN applications.
  • Assist with interviews: hold interviews for volunteer/ VolunTEEN candidates with Volunteer Coordinator; update spreadsheet with results; prep acceptance emails with training dates, sends letters to participants who are not selected, etc.
  • Assist our Foster Care Coordinator as needed with our online foster parent applications.
  • Assist Foster Care with discharges, intakes, and meet and greets/finalizations.
  • Assist with providing Basic Training for new volunteers and foster parents.
  • Prep volunteer ID badges and onboarding packets.
  • Oversee weekly community groups.
  • Communicate with Shelter Managers and Team Leaders regarding new volunteer start dates and assist with finding a team leader for the new volunteers to shadow.
  • Assist with inputting new volunteers (including foster parents) into databases (Volgistics and FileMaker) and ensure information is kept up to date (address changes, shift changes, etc.).
  • Assist with providing continuing education classes such as Dog walking, Cleaning, Database systems and medical.
  • Assist with corporate volunteer days and girl/boy scout troops coming for tours/donations.

Administration:

  • Administrative duties, such as returning telephone calls, email inquiries and mail inquiries regarding volunteering at NSALA.
  • Handle all volunteer call outs and schedule changes
  • Enter all new volunteer data in volunteer program databases – create and update a weekly report of volunteer hours – inform the Senior Volunteer Coordinator about volunteers that did not call out for their shifts.
  • Handle distribution of volunteer badges, access cards, uniforms and parking passes.
  • Order monthly office supplies
  • Maintain inventory of volunteer shirts and sweatshirts
  • Assist with weekly newsletter
  • Recruit from current volunteers to assist with events, rescue, tours, etc.
  • Maintain and update volunteer hard-copy files (attendance, training forms, commendations, accident reports, etc.)
  • Assist with the maintenance, and run weekly and monthly reports:
    • Weekly Volunteer Staffing Sheets, Attendance Reports, etc.
  • Keep the Volunteer Bulletin Board up to date regarding training, new volunteer positions, and policy changes for shelter (or communicate with all volunteers in e-mail blasts)
  • Oversee administrative volunteers with volunteer birthday cards and certificates, anniversary letters, and year-end holiday cards, and ensure that these items are completed in the event an administrative volunteer is not available to assist.

Special Initiatives:

  • Assist with Volunteer Events such as Volunteer Grab & Go, Appreciation Week, Walk & Wag Fundraising, etc.
  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator and Associate Director of Volunteers with corporate volunteers during Corporate Volunteer Days.
  • Work hands-on with the Volunteer Coordinator, Associate Director of Volunteers, Shelter Directors, Shelter Managers, and Kennel Associates to increase morale and help mediate relationships between staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with the development of other new initiatives to enrich the current foster and volunteer programs.
  • Provide assistance to Shelter Operations during special events, adoption events, and during adoption days, as needed.
  • Support Communications team with Media Events as needed.
  • Provide shelter tours as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to work with a very varied group of volunteers, employees and the public.
  • A can-do, positive and solution-focused mindset.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, and one weekend day.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must be comfortable around cats and dogs of all sizes.
  • A genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of animals.
  • An empathetic approach to caring for individuals and rescue pets.

Salary: $18.00 per hour
