The Foster Care Associate supports the daily operations of the Foster Care Department by assisting with foster placement, animal care coordination, and foster family engagement. Working closely with the Foster Care Manager, this role helps expand and support the foster network, facilitates successful foster and adoption placements, and promotes foster animals through social media and community outreach events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update program databases, spreadsheets, and records.
- Review and process foster applications.
- Assist with foster parent interviews and orientations.
- Respond to phone calls, emails, and foster inquiries.
- Coordinate foster supply pickups and inventory management.
- Facilitate the intake and discharge of foster animals.
- Assist with foster animal adoptions and PTA placements.
- Schedule veterinary appointments and coordinate follow-up care.
- Communicate with veterinarians regarding test results, treatment plans, and medical updates.
- Introduce foster pets to foster families and resident pets as needed.
- Maintain department calendars and scheduling.
- Create engaging social media content to promote foster animals.
- Maintain regular communication with foster parents and provide ongoing support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Experience handling canines and felines of all sizes with patience, compassion, and commitment to animal welfare.
- Knowledge of shelter operations, animal health, and animal behavior.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Skilled in administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, scanning, and record keeping.
- Strong communication, customer service, and active listening skills.
- Experience creating content for social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
- Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs. and performing physical shelter-related tasks.
- Valid, clean New York State driver’s license required.
- Flexible availability, including evenings and one weekend day per week.
- Passion for animal rescue and supporting NSALA’s mission.
Salary: $18.00 per hour
