We’re so happy to share that Tallulah is on the mend! After spending time recuperating in our Special Recovery Center following her surgery, this brave girl is making steady, encouraging progress. She’s now back on her paws and starting to feel more like herself again.
Tallulah has begun exploring her surroundings with growing confidence, showing off her curious nature and playful spirit. It’s been wonderful to see her personality shine through as she regains her strength each day.
This sweet girl has also charmed her way into a loving foster home, where she’ll continue her recovery and rehabilitation. With the comfort of a home environment and dedicated care, she’s well on her way to being ready for a forever family of her own.

Tallulah’s Future Is Worth Fighting For
At just eight weeks old, Tallulah should have been worrying about important kitten things like chasing toys or curling up in a warm lap. Instead, she was found abandoned and struggling by the side of the road in upstate New York and was turned into our North Country Initiative Cat Adoption Center (NCI).
How this tiny striped kitten was injured remains a mystery, but one thing was immediately clear. Tallulah wasn’t used to living outside. Despite her discomfort, she welcomed every gentle touch. Her fluffy coat was clean and she was well fed and affectionate. “She certainly doesn’t seem like a feral cat,” noted Dr. Mark Verdino, Animal League America Chief of Veterinary Staff. “She’s very friendly, playful, purring. My concern is that somebody dumped her because they didn’t want to deal with her injury.”
An examination revealed that Tallulah’s right femur is very badly broken. The local veterinary hospital that first evaluated her offered a heartbreaking solution: amputation. When our North Country Initiative team shared Tallulah’s X-rays with Dr. Verdino, however, he saw something else. Hope.
“We felt this was a fixable leg and worth saving so we can give her a better quality of life long-term,” he said. “Cats just don’t do as well with rear leg amputations, and now hopefully Tallulah will have four good working legs for the rest of her life.”
Time was of the essence because Tallulah is so young, and her body had already begun trying to heal the broken bone on its own. Without immediate intervention, the fractured femur could have fused in a crooked position, creating lifelong complications. Our team mobilized quickly. A halfway point between NCI and our Long Island campus was identified, and rescuers drove for hours each way to hand off the kitten so no time would be wasted getting her into surgery.
Thanks to that swift action, Tallulah has now undergone the intricate orthopedic procedure needed to repair her leg. Because of her young age, her bones are incredibly fragile, making this a delicate and complex surgery that required great precision and expertise. The procedure was successful, but now the most critical part begins—her healing. Tallulah is surrounded by people who are determined to give her the future she deserves. But providing that future requires veterinary expertise, rehabilitation, and people who believe that a tiny kitten’s life is worth all this effort. Those people include YOU.
