Warmer weather brings more than just fun in the sun, it also happens to bring with it some hazards – especially for our pets. To make sure your pet enjoys their summer, we'd like to share these important safety tips.
It’s finally summer, with a capital S! We’ve already had a severe heatwave, the roses are in full bloom, the beaches are crowded, and I agree with my resident kitties, Helen Rose and Miss Petunia: there’s nothing sweeter than a relaxing “airing-out” on a summer afternoon! But of course, I’m always thinking about those less fortunate.
Just as important in cold weather, feral cats – also known as community cats – need proper shelter during the summer months. Remy’s rescue was the result of compassion, persistence and dedicated teamwork. From the FDNY paramedics who first found her, to the shelter partners who followed protocol, and finally to the staff at North Shore Animal League America who made sure she didn’t fall through the cracks, this was a life saved because people worked together and refused to give up.
Cream Soda had a rough start when he first arrived at our Pet Health Centers, but through the support of our Help Me Heal Program, Cream Soda was able to get the urgent care he needed to heal from his wounds and get back on his paws. The transformation of this sweet boy is truly remarkable!
On June 12, North Shore Animal League America gathered its passionate community of supporters together for our annual Celebration of Rescue gala, held at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York City. The night’s program honored the people and partners who make our lifesaving work possible.

If your female cat is in heat, you’re likely dealing with loud vocalizations, restlessness, and unwanted attention from male cats. In the middle of this, many pet parents start to ask: Can a cat be spayed when in heat? The short answer is yes — but there are some important considerations to keep in mind before proceeding.
