Something to Bark About
As the summer heat intensifies, the risk of heatstroke in our pets becomes a significant concern. Heatstroke in pets can occur quickly and can lead to serious consequences if not promptly recognized and treated. It's important to know the signs that your pet is in distress and how to help them quickly.
Warmer weather brings more than just fun in the sun, it also happens to bring with it some hazards – especially for our pets. To make sure your pet enjoys their summer, we'd like to share these important safety tips.
Because June is National Adopt a Cat Month, I’m devoting this entire blog to cats — not kittens, but adult cats — and why they make the best, most appreciative, charming, funny, and loving pets in the world. So, get ready to meet some fantastic felines who are waiting for homes, now and forever!
While people may enjoy the spectacle, the loud booms and flashing lights caused by fireworks can put our pets into panic mode. Here are some helpful reminders to make a stress-free holiday for you and your pet.
Just as important in cold weather, feral cats – also known as community cats – need proper shelter during the summer months. The journey to North Shore Animal League America that each of our rescued animals' travels is different, but we strive to ensure it ends the same — with a loving home. That commitment was especially important for two remarkable cats, Potamus and Eduardo, who traveled all the way from Kabul, Afghanistan to our Port Washington, NY campus, and spent over 200 days with us before finding the families who would change their lives forever.
When we visited The Viscardi Center in Albertson, NY, we found more than just a school — we found partners who share our mission of fostering hope and resilience. The Center was founded by Dr. Henry Viscardi Jr., who was born without legs and became a pioneering advocate for people with disabilities. Today, the Center continues to be rooted in the belief that obstacles are not roadblocks, but opportunities to reimagine what is possible.
Cats are naturally vocal creatures, using their meows to communicate with humans and other animals. But when your cat starts meowing more than usual, it’s natural to wonder the cause. Understanding the reasons behind this behavior can help you address your cat’s needs and strengthen your bond.
