Animal Control took my dog because I was arrested.

////Animal Control took my dog because I was arrested.

I was arrested the other night and the Sheriff called animal control to pick up my puppy. Now that I am out of jail the shelter wants to charge me $200 to get him back. How can I get around this?

Impound fees are common. The fees charged vary throughout the country. People who do not pay the impound fee and retrieve their animal in a timely manner may lose all rights to their animal. People who believe they have overpaid can still argue the point after their animal is at home. A lawsuit can be commenced to try to be compensated.
