Can I get my dog back?

////Can I get my dog back?

Question

I live in the US and was planning to go back to Scotland when I got ill with pneumonia, I rehomed my dog. Nothing was signed and no money exchanged.
Can I get my dog back? I’m staying in the US.

Answer

People who move usually take their beloved animals with them. People who re-home their animal generally have no further rights to that animal and the person with whom the animal was re-homed generally has no legal obligation to return the animal, even if the animal was gifted. Regrets do not equal rights. However, sometimes people who are not very bonded with their animal will agree to return the animal, occasionally for a fee. I hope that everyone involved considers the best interests of this dog.
