Can I have my dog back if he was adopted by another family?

////Can I have my dog back if he was adopted by another family?

Question

I turned my dog in to a shelter and a few days later I changed my mind, but now he was adopted by another family. Can I have the dog back? Is there any legal action I can take or laws that says I can have him back?

Answer

Generally when a person surrenders his/her animal, such person has no further rights to the animal. Regrets do not equal rights. The decision to surrender an animal should be carefully considered before doing so, not after. I hope the dog was placed in a loving forever home.
