Can I take my cat back from my friend if I pay them the back money?

////Can I take my cat back from my friend if I pay them the back money?

Question

I gave my cat, that I adopted to a friend because my mother would not allow me to have the cat in her house. Now , I plan to relocate, and I want to take my cat back. Is it legal to take her back? I am willing to give my friend all the money I would have spent to take care of her, as a currdicay. But do, I still have rights to the cat, since I am the one who adopted the cat?

Answer

People who give away or sell their animal generally have no further rights to that animal and the person to whom the animal was sold or given is generally under no legal obligation to return the animal. People who need a temporary caretaker for their animal should make such arrangements, not sell or give the animal away and expect to get the animal returned when convenient. Regrets do not equal rights. I hope the cat is doing well.
