////Is it a crime that my boyfriend intentionally released my indoor rabbit outside?

Question

Is it a crime that my boyfriend got mad at me so he let my indoor rabbit, who's never ever been outside, go and he watched him go? To me he just killed my rabbit. Indoor rabbits will not survive outdoors. they would be very domesticated and predators will kill Jim very quickly. I know he's dead I can feel it. Is there anything criminal wise I can do to him?

Answer

Oregon’s animal abandonment law states, in part: “A person commits the crime of animal abandonment if the person intentionally, knowingly, recklessly or with criminal negligence leaves a domestic animal or an equine at a location without providing minimum care.” People who believe that this law has been violated can contact the Oregon Humane Society and the police. In the meantime, I suggest you try very diligently to locate the rabbit.
