Rights to Kitten That Was a Gift

////Rights to Kitten That Was a Gift

Question

My now Ex-boyfriend who was selling kittens gave me one before things ended. I offered to pay for the kitten and he said I could have him. There are text messages to prove the communication. I then offered to help him sell the rest of the kittens in return for giving me one. I posted online to sell the kittens and also have proof that I helped sell the rest of the kittens. Now he is asking for the kitten back. What are my rights to the kitten?

Answer

Generally when a person gives away his/her animal, such person has no further rights to that animal (unless there was an agreement stating otherwise). The recipient of the gifted animal typically has the right to keep the animal.
